There are quite a few British women playing this week, the $75K at Horholt, Belgium has Elena Baltacha and Anna Smith and the $50k at Patra, Greece has Anne Keothavong, Georgie Stoop, Mel South, Katie O'Brien and Naomi Cavaday, O'Brien and Cavaday play each other in the first round. These are the types of tournaments I would like to see the women winning instead of the $25k ones, there should be more points on offer at the bigger ones.

Anna Smith went out in the first round but Elena is through to the second and will face Kirsten Flipkens for a place in the QFs. Anne Keothavong is through to the QFs in her tournament, Georgie Stoop went out and Mel South and Naomi Cavaday are playing their matches just now, Mels hasn't long started so not sure how that will go it was 3-2 the the other player, Naomi is 6-2, 3-2 up in her match so unless she does something stupid she will also go into the QFs. (If I'm reading the scoring correctly anyway, not live score so it doesn't put the persons name against the score).

Mel, Naomi and Anne all got to the QF's but that was yesterdays matches, the website hadn't been updated, it has now and Mel and Naomi were knocked out but Anne is now in the semis so at least one of them got through.

Katie O'Brien ranked 120, Anne Keothavong ranked 121 and Elena Baltacha ranked 141, Anne moved up 14 places and Elena up 23, the fight is on for Britains No. 1 spot, this has got to be good news for any upcoming WTA events, that's 2 tournaments in a row that Elena has won, must be great for the confidence.

Go the ladies. It seems the field of Women is actually better than the men! But they do lack an Andy...

Anne, Katie, Naomi and Mel are in the main draw of a $75k event this week, Mel got through as a lucky loser but will play Anne in the first round.

Katie is out in the first round for the second tournament in a row, which means she may not be No. 1 next week, Anne beat Mel South and is in the second round and Naomi also advanced to the second round.
