And how suddenly would the escalators stop if you press the big red stop button.
Actually witnessed a member of staff use the emergency stop button. It took about two seconds for it to become stationary.

I always find it a pain that the handrails don't match the speed of the stairs (sorry if this has been said before)

I said that to Cate on the escalators the other day, I wasn't sure whether it was my imagination but clearly is isn't. It's fine on some but doesn't match properly on others.
