Sorry, I realise my earlier statement was unfairly general and muddled. It's not so much about the prestige of the university - good teaching is good teaching, hard work is hard work, regardless of the institution, it's more about degrees like 'dr who studies'. If you enjoy them though, fair enough....
I realise that this seems a bit of a change of argument - it wasn't intended to be - I just didn't express myself clearly, or fairly, earlier.

Laura, I may have missed something, but although u were comparing less respected universities and saying a skill set straight from school may be better, I still picked up that you were saying a "prestigious" university was just as good....... not sure why?
