I can see this being turned into a 10 page arguement between Yamor and Cydey  lol

It's daft that Murray has to meet this list of criteria before a win against Federer is deemed acceptable.  And even then, someone will just say, "Federer didn't play his best".

How pathetic is that?

I also agree that Yamor's points were unnecessarily defensive of Federer.

Murray's still the only current main tour player other than Nadal to have a winning H2H record against Federer, so its blatantly not that common an achievement.

We're not saying Murray is better than Federer, only that he can perhaps beat him. And he's done it more than once. We're talking about Federer the unbeatable here so all in all I think its churlish to try and over-analyse it in order to defend Fed.

To bring in the fact that Murray hasnt played Fed much (due to not making it to enough MS + GS semis or further) - again I think its very important to remember that Murray is REALLY just beginning his career at the top, go look at how Federer's record stood as a 21 year old! Or ANYONE'S record with only 2 season's worth of action behind them on the main tour.

To say it again, I 100% agree that it's a very good achievement by Andy. All I was pointing out was that you can't make too much out of it, since with so few matches played, its possible that there are one-off reasons for the results. I'm not saying there is, just that its possible. Noone denies that Andy has it in him to beat Fed, (at least if Fed is not playing at the top of his game). I'm not bringing excuses for Fed, just explaining from Murray's point of view why you can't use this head-to-head so simply at face value. Put it this way, if Andy's record would be more like 12-8 then it would definitely show something - to have a winning record over 20 games would be amazing. But from 3 matches you can't prove anything - there could be one-off reasons for Fed's losses. Hell, there could be a one-off season for Andy's loss!

But you didn't mention Andy's loss, only Fed's losses.  And that's what everyone does.  It's always "Federer didn't play well" or "Federer was tired".  No one bothers to manufacture excuses for Andy's losses.

It's boring.  People need to learn that sometimes you lose to a better player on the day.

I didn't mention Andy's loss because it wasn't relevant to the point i was making. I was trying to say that Andy having a winning record is not as simple as some make out, because it's only two games won, and there could be other reasons for those losses by Fed.
