2012 USO Final: Murray vs Djokovic

Quote

I just hope that if he doesn't live up to these ramped up expectations people don't start getting on his back again.

I think Prodigy said it beautifully.

Really, the way I look at it is,the real reason I want more for him is because Andy himself wants more. Were he to simply decide tomorrow that he'd had enough, achieved what he wanted to achieve in his sport and that it was time for him to try his hand at something new-well,I'd be heartbroken at not having him play his wonderful tennis anymore! But he'd be doing what made him happy, and I'd be happy for him that he'd achieved his dreams.

But (thankfully!) Andy does want to play on and achieve more. So,of course,I want to see him achieving his dreams, celebrating more wonderful victories!(I admit it,the one I want for him in particular is Wimbledon.Grass court season is my favourite part of the tennis year Smile ) But even if that's not to be-Andy has already achieved his dream of winning a Slam-something many, many people thought he wasn't good enough,or mentally strong enough,or whatever,to do.And,(equally significantly,to my mind, although I know some feel differently) he won that wonderful Olympic gold medal. At a home Olympics too!Everything that comes in future (because I do believe there's more to come!) will be wonderful icing on an already-incredible cake Very Happy

Photo editor Ella Ling presents her favourite image of the year:

“As one of the small group of British tennis photographers, we’d argued over what Andy might do on match point when this day would finally come. I’d been at almost every victory of his career and believed he would sink to his knees and cry, overcome with emotion. Well, I was half right! Although we all love a flamboyant and wild celebration following a win, and complained at the time that it’s not exactly what we got, in retrospect it was a celebration fitting of Andy. So overcome by actually winning his first Slam, all he could do was sink to his haunches and stare in disbelief at his team – in his own way, it was the biggest celebration of his career.”

Wonderful! I'd been watching Ella Ling's countdown, and what an emotional no 1 it is. No 2 is OK too!

I was following all the second-by-second comments on here at MW. You could feel all the intense, at times screaming, emotions coming through the screen at you!  It really added to a truly unforgettable occasion.

I don't usually go online whilst watching Muzza, but I was watching the final alone so decided to see what was happening here and it was amazing to share the moment with so many like-minded people.

Brilliant ProdE, thanks. It's a wonder the person managed to keep the camera still and didn't fall over. I might have!

There are some repeats of sporting highlights on Eurosport this week, including Andy's US Open final.  It's obviously not the whole match, as it's just two hours long, and they say they are taking a look back at the win, so could be all kinds of build-up and statistics etc.

They are also doing shows based on Super Saturday (though only the stadium bit going by the description) and Tour de France.

Guys,I was just reading Andy's twitter conversation there, and it turns out it is as we thought might end up happening - the USO trophy arrived in the UK a few days ago,but of course because Andy and co are in Miami,he hasn't seen it yet!

How frustrating must that be!And how ironic that after waiting all that time for it to get from the states to the UK,he himself was back in the US by the time it got there.

He also said that it was really hard to pick one over the other, but based purely on satisfaction, winning Olympic Gold in front of a home crowd was more satisfactory than winning the USO.
