Andy at the 2016 WTF

Quote

I consider this draw as a bonus to win the event. True it is hard to win all three RR matches as one would not normally expect three such good opponents so quickly but to win two is likely to mean a semi final and then two hard opponents are gone. He can clearly beat the other four including Novak so the path is then made easier? To lose to any one of his group twice is unlikely so if he reaches the final then I feel an event win is most likely.

I hope that you all can follow that!

What a joke of a draw. Literally the hardest one he could possibly have. Thiem and Monfils are easy wins and he has a 7-match winning record against Raonic.

That draw's in all reality handed the #1 back to Djokovic, unless Murray can beat him in the knockouts. Can't see Djokovic losing a match in the group and can't see Murray winning all three.

Kei's game seems to match up well to Andy's under a roof for some reason whereas outdoors its almost a formality for Andy. This could be a tough 3-setter.

Cilic? Well he was well beaten by Isner in Paris so on that basis I'll take Andy to win in straights.

Wawrinka? Who knows? If he plays like he's played most of his tournaments this year then Andy will win easily in 2 sets. Unbelievable to have won 3 Slams but only a single Masters tournament. In fact Stan rarely even reaches a Masters semi-final.

He may not be fully fit (although I've seen nothing to suggest he's carrying an injury), but he's still in damn sight better shape than his three opponents - one of which has been in woeful form for months and looks exhausted, one of which pulled out of Paris and the other who withdraw with a muscle tear just days ago.

In most tournies you have to beat the best once to win it, Here you have to do enough to get to the semis as first step.

If one of his group wins against him and wins all three he will play the other group runner up and Andy wins the other two games well will probably play Novak in the semi. He is likely to have to beat him sometime and it will be easier in the semi in my opinion.

If Andy wins all three of his RR matches then he will almost certainly play the number two in the other group which is comparatively easy for him and probably Novak in the final.

What is the problem?

Having the hardest group does not necessarily mean the worst.

Stan's record at Masters level this year is one SF in Canada and one QF in Monte Carlo. For the remaining 7 Masters he has four R16, two  R32 and one R64. And on that pathetic record he's still 3rd in the rankings? Just shows you how far behind the rest of players are from Andy and Joker.

Idoubt whether Raonic will play so Berdych willbe the alternaate. If you had watch the match with Cilic he had a problem with wrist and elbow shaking most of the time and his body language is not great either so who knows. His serve lets him down.We will have to wait and see.

Stan has been good at the O2.  He should have beaten Federer but for some rather strange antics by others! He is a big event player as his slams show.

Wow, just like this year's USO, Nole has been handed a cup cake draw. If he doesn't win then he really will have let a golden opportunity slip.

WTF would be a bonus for Andy but what I really want is for him to stick it to Djokovic and win next year's AO and FO.

A lot of negativity in here (no, I can't believe I'm saying that either . . .)

On the slow O2 surface, I don't think Cilic or Nishikori will trouble Andy. Cincy was a fast surface and Andy was knackered there.

The only one I'm worried about is Stan, who can be anything from dire to amazing, and rarely anything in between.

Andy has a winning H2H against all three.

I'd love Andy to play Novak in the final, then beat him to shut those up who think Andy's number 1 ranking is somehow not legit.

If Andy wins, it's a bonus. I quite like the idea of the number 1 ranking bouncing back and forth for a bit (unpopular opinion). But the reason o2 is generally a damp squib is that most of the players are broken from a tough season and the matches are poor. Andy has beaten everyone in his draw before. He can do it again if his body holds up. Plus I long to see Gael beat Djoker.
