Andy at the Miami Open

Quote

The tournament runs from 22 March - 2 April.

Andy has won the title twice, in 2009 defeating Djokovic in straight sets, and in 2013 by finally overcoming David Ferrer in three after losing the first set 2-6 and winning the third 7-1 in the tiebreak, having faced match point at 5-6 in the decider.  He did get to the final in 2012 and 2015 but lost to Djokovic on both occasions.

Last year, ranked No. 85, he saw off Frederico Delbonis 7-6(4), 6-1 in round 1 before losing to Daniil Medvedev 4-6, 2-6, after which he said "My level of tennis is obviously not right now where it needs to be to win matches like that.  Today there were some good signs on the court but the two key things in tennis are serve and return.  I didn't do either of them particularly well."

The draw is out.

Andy plays the world No. 76 Dusan Lajovic in round 1, and would meet the No. 30 seed Maxime Cressy next, with probably the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in round 3.

Thanks Aileen, not liking the 3rd round opponent.

Not sure of the second round opponent either as Andy currently seems not to have a great set of results with American opponents this last twelve months. It will not be easy assuming he gets through R1.

Lajovic is a doable R1. Cressy rather unorthodox with his serve & volley game. If Andy makes it that far, R3 will present the worst case scenario atm. And that goes for any player in the field.

I’m seeing him as the second match after the Bublik match on Stadium Court.

That is almost exactly what I told Aileen! If Alcaraz is playing the way he did on Sunday against Medvedev, nobody can beat him. There's a tiny chance if he plays the way he did in his first set against Sinner in the semifinal...otherwise, he is just unapproachable.
