Andy at the US Open 2015

A French final would be perfect. Agree to Gnome: worst-case scenario are Fed, Wawrinka or Cilic for all the named reasons.

Worst scenarios now:

Cilic defends his title, draws level with Andy on slams.

Wawrinka wins and passes Andy's slam total.

Not especially keen on either.

Marin Cilic with two slams is a serious indigestion job.

For me, your slam total should at least be proportionate to your Masters count (11 with Andy), tournament wins (35) and slam finals (8). With Andy, it clearly is. Or actually, isn't, as these stats suggest he should have at least four slams. It would REALLY stink if Cilic or Wawrinka won the USO.

Cilic is so technically flawed. Rally with him down the middle for eight shots and he'll eventually hit a forehand four inches into the trams. It's what he does. If he can win the US Open, so can I.

But you are forgetting the Fed/Djok/Murray/Nadal scenario in all of this. NO comparison with the two who are currently on court!
And yes it would be awful if either of your two won.

Ah yes but he is coached by Goran who won Wimbledon as a Wildcard and knows how to maximise his opportunities with the limited strengths he had. Crash/Bang/Wallop - blink and the point is over ! He will tell Cilic to finish points early so most opponents wouldn't be able to drag the point out to 8 strokes. Cilic will go for the kill after a few points.

Correct. Goran has him pulling the trigger early. It's the only way for Cilic to play.

But the servebots are evolving, curse them.  Anderson has learned to bend down and everything.  Is another rise of the servebots inevitable after the Andy and Djoker years? Oh, I'm still gloomy this evening.

Yup, but let's just hope that someone like Kyrios comes to the fore...then we can still all enjoy

Yeah, let's hope that Nick the Dick makes it big.

Seriously, who else has won 35 titles, 11 Masters and been in EIGHT slam finals, but only won TWO?

That's Andy's problem - he puts so much pressure on himself to win slams because he's so intense and he feels like that's what he ought to be doing.

Whereas others like Wawrinka and Cilic just come out swinging cos they've nothing to lose.

Andy's also suffered from bad draws, bad scheduling, gamesmanship, you name it. The lad has done everything the hard way.

Oh dear, although I agree... it is Andy's choice to play as he does.
We cannot continue to make excuses for him.
I'm quite sure, although not knowing the details, that others could say the same  about their ill-luck at times.
What it all boils down to is the fact that the *main" titles havent come easily for Andy..... unlike the main No 1 & 2 atm.
Why oh why does it apear so easy for them????

The problem for Andy is who he has faced in those finals, every one either against Fed or Djokovic, 2 all time greats. He's really had no luck there at all. Cilic on the other hand had Nishikori in his and Stan won his first against a clearly hobbled Nadal. It's total injustice to be sure but Sport is like that. I really hope Andy ends his career with 4-5 slams.

The only thing to mention in Andy's favour is the USO 1/4 line up. All over 26 years of age with Cilic being the youngest. Time is still on Andy's side because it lookes like no youngstres are going to breakthrough any time soon. I think Andy has a window of another 3-4 years at the top to get it done. Stan winning slams in his 30s shows it can be done.
