Andy at the US Open

Last year Andy, who is currently ranked World No. 36, made round 3 after defeating Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets and qualifier Emilio Nava in four, Andy having lost the first set 5-7 after 1 hr 25 mins of play.  He was then defeated 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-3 by Matteo Berrettini.

Sky now have the sole broadcasting rights so viewers in the UK who don't have it will have to depend on free live streams.

Agree: Moutet is not too bad. Potentially Dimi is a challenge, but he can also blow hot and cold. I do not want to look any further.

I suppose you could make the argument that Dimitrov and Zverev can both be erratic so they're not the two worst seeds to have in your section. We'll see.

^ He has to take this as an opportunity to beat some good players and make it to the round against potentially Alcaraz. He has the game to compete against and beat all those up to R3 so he needs to just 'go for it'. To make R4 unseeded would be a good achievement.

I think making the second week of a slam is one of the goals that is keeping him going. There is a chance here. He'll need a bit of luck, which he hasn't tended to have at the USO since winning it 11 years ago.

Andy declared himself fit to face French world No.71 Corentin Moutet on Tuesday after pulling out of the Canadian Masters - and then missing Cincinnati - with an abdominal strain.

“I had a small tear which is healing and the last five or six days of practice have been really good, I have not had any issues serving.  It is just obviously that you don’t take a week off from serving then go full into it. You need to build up a little bit. It has not been perfect in that sense but my ab has been ok.”

^ Sounds suitably cautious wording but sensible as time for healing the body is extended so much with age. I would have needed a month! An essential part of him being able to win now is his serve so he needs that to be working well.

My expectation (or is it hope?), if he wins in R1, is to get to R3. First rounds I am never certain about. His injury concerns by then would be swamped by his competitive nature. From that point on he can entertain his audience with those skills whatever results!
