Andy at Washington

Quote

In his press conference Andy talked about withdrawing after the late finish. I cannot blame him.

It’s ridiculous finishing at 3am and being expected to play the same day. I’ve always thought that the scheduling in US based tournaments is plain stupid.

I really hope he does withdraw.  Of course we all want him to go further in Washington and he may well win his next match but, what then anyway - another match on Saturday.  He's achieved everything he needs to this week and I think needs to see the bigger picture with Toronto starting Monday followed by Cincy the week after.

7 or 8 hours this week is more than enough.  Now rest for a couple of days before Toronto.

Is he playing Toronto? I hadn't seen it mentioned but I may have missed it.

Based on your comments, I'd say a chance I haven't watched the match! Haha.
Another superb win for Andy! Let's go!

I've had a quick look on the Toronto website and he appears to be listed... Think

Fair enough. I presume it’s a wildcard?

He's down there as world number 45, so some sort of protected ranking? Either way, I didn't think he was playing until I saw this. There has only been mention of Cincy as far as I'm aware.

I was about to ask when the match has finished because going to work this morning I wasn't able to find a report while the result was displayed on the atp website.
Thanks for the link now I know. 3am! How is it possible to play a match at 3am!
If Andy withdraw I would agree with him. Or if he loses next round, no worries. I consider the job done for this tournament.

Seriously beginning to wonder why I - and lately Matthew - bother updating the schedule thread.

Jesus, sorry ATL.  devil

So is this page the first and last word on his official participation? https://www.murraysworld.com/schedule/

ATL   Some of us are paying attention and understand that you can play in Toronto then in Cincinnati!

I hope he does play in both and treat it as part of a intended fitness programme. Then to me it is no problem. If it gets too much then he might lose a few matches but he will gain considerable endurance strength as a result?

Watched the match. Was an up and down performance ..but he fought hard to win. Serving was below  his best..2nd serve gets rammed right back at him or past him..coupled with some poor shot decisions and execution at opportune moments. ..rusty but thats totally fair considering. Vocal Andy is also back...good thing or bad thing for his tennis ...who knows.

To me, his hip is not anyway near100% ..he spent almost every in-between point hobbling. I doubt he'd last a slam with successive long matches over a 2 week period. Great to see.him back however and he had some trademark exceptional shots in the mix.

The opponent played well and was aggressive in his shots throughout.  Andy somehow butchered a 5-0 lead at the 1st set tie break and so match could have been wrapped up earlier.

Great to see Andy back however he's got a fair bit to go in his recovery. Tennis  was boring without Andy.
