Andy in Davis Cup

Quote

According to Wikipedia this would be the 6th triple bagel in the Open era and first since 1993.
That is excluding Davis Cup, I'm afraid.

Who are the commentators?
Us in the arena were told that it would be Chris Bradman and Nick Brown commentating...

The crowd are really annoying.

Ban those stupid trumpets from tennis already!
They're air horns, and they're meant to help create noise (which they do).

Brilliant night at Braehead, the atmosphere was really good and the crowd were right behind Andy and the GB Team.  It was nice to see his family, kim and a whole load of fans from Dunblane there and I think Andy enjoyed it too.  Looking forward to tomorrow and Sunday and hope the same atmosphere is still around.

lol Where were they both sitting then. Were they in the seats behind where team GB were sitting? If I had recognised one of them, I'd have recognised the other.

They were sitting just behind the umpire slightly to his left.  On the other side were the group who were leading with all the cheering.

How do you know?
Here are the 5 triple bagels the record is referring to:

1968 Roland Garros - Nikola Spear beat Daniel Contet
1987 Roland Garros - Karel Novacek beat Eduardo Bengoechea
1987 Wimbledon - Stefan Edberg beat Stefan Eriksson
1987 US Open - Ivan Lendl beat Barry Moir
1993 Roland Garros - Sergi Bruguera beat Thierry Champion

Here are some additional triple bagels but from Davis Cup:

1991 Hong Kong v Singapore - Colin Grant beat Liu Wai-Yaw
1992 Hong Kong v Sri Lanka - Michael Walker beat Dishan Herath
2005 Brazil v Netherlands - Ricardo Mello beat David Josepa
2009 Portugal v Algeria - Rui Machado beat Valentin Rahmine

Therefore, we know the record you quoted only refers to ATP.

Nice to hear from those who were actually there!

Incidentally, Andy just missed out on a triple bagel in the 1st round of the 2007 AO against Spain's Alberto Martin, although Martin saved himself by holding one service game in the 3rd set.  On that occasion it took Andy 69 minutes and he attributed his win to the fact that the match had to be held indoors because of the intense heat.

Why was Bram choosen to play Andy. Surely Ward could have beaten him?  Do players in the Davis Cup not have to be within a certain ranking. I felt sorry for him but he was brave enough to play. I do not understand why he played. He was humilated not very nice for his team to do that to him
