Andy in Davis Cup

Quote

I've just watched the final moments of Andy's interview on Eurosport after his third match at Davis Cup - so emotional for him - it really meant a lot. Didn't seethe match itself as we've been out all day but just caught some highlights. Murray critics take note - he's not dour and uninteresting - just a super guy.

" AM almost trashes racket bag and chair as he runs into them at end of 3rd game. Thought he'd won 30-all point but hadn't. Scottish ump too! "

As posted in the report thread:

The emotion was unexpected, but nice to see. I'm confident that the US Hardcourt season is going to be at least decent... and the in the last couple of months I've really warmed to Murray as a person. Well done mate, you should be very proud of what you've achieved so far.

How moving was that? Scotland people know a legend when they see one.  There was unqualified love and admiration for Andy on that court (unlike Wimbledon) and I believe that meant a lot to him. What a pity the BBC did not cover it.

Perhaps it's the nature of the tournaments that determines the type of audience?

Oh help - I'm nearly in tears again ... Very Sad

I think every Andy Murray fan is hoping this will be the start of something that we all know he is capable of achieving.  He came across today as a totally great young man - giving his all for his country and being so pleased and emotional at being back home.  There is something very special about being Scottish and obviously Andy feels it.  What amazing support he received from the crowd and all his family that were watching him.  Brilliant way to get over the dissapointment of Wimbledon.  Come on Andy use this as a springboard to achieve what you so desperately want and deserve and what we all want you to have .........  The USA awaits -Muzza all the way....
I feel that we are about to witness a totally different Andy. His emotions came through as did his maturity. This Davis cup series in Glasgow has put into the shade his defeat by Nadal in Wimbledon.

Perhaps this weekend's victory is to Andy what last year's victory of Serbia over France was for Djokovic. I believe so, hence the tears.

Well done everyone in Team GB
I too think that something very special happened yesterday, and now that Andy knows that so many people in his native country genuinely support him and love him, it must surely boost his self-belief that he can win a GS.  He gave his all for himself, for Scotland and for Great Britain, so forget stuffy old Wimbledon, Andy - just keep on remembering Braehead!

I shed a tear or two for him today because I feel like, for a very very long time, we've seen a facade of a highly stressed individual who has a whole nation on his shoulders and today he gave us everything we could have asked for... the same tears of joy that we may see at a slam one day. Smile

Completely agree with you. I hope Andy keeps this moment safely inside him and it warms and inspires him in the months ahead. thumb up

" t’s been so much fun this week. I’ve known the team for a long time so it was very special to be here with them.
The support this week has been great. It’s been packed every day. I don’t get chance to come back to Scotland very often so it’s nice to be here.I’m not going to say any more, because I’m done."

"I think I showed to myself how much I love playing Davis Cup and how much I enjoy playing for my country. It’s a different feeling. I felt like I was myself on the court. I felt like I was hungry, I felt like I was intense, I felt I was getting annoyed at the things I felt I should have been getting annoyed at and things that get me fired up. That’s me. That’s what I’ve always been like and I need to make sure that I don’t lose that in the other tournaments."

hug , i 'm so pleased that " people " who talk bad about Andy all the time can see his sensitive side , he's shy , that 's  why sometimes some have the feeling that he doesn 't care but no , i love him so much .... he's my scottish chouchou forever . wub

Just caught the end of the match and the interview on the highlights last night (with the whole thing recorded to keep me going till Montreal).  Oh my I was in tears too to see it all mean so much to Andy.  I think it's partly about re-finding his roots and discovering just how loved he is in Scotland.  How I wish my English compatriots could show the same love for Andy.  Not sure it quite levels with Serbia winning the actual cup but I agree it could nevertheless be some kind of a turning point for Andy.  He seemed to realise something about tapping into his emotions in a positive way.  It seems like over the last few months he's been becoming ever more self-aware about the emotional/mental side of his game.  Really glad to hear he's going to have some time off now (even if not as long as he'd hoped because of his fitness trainer's wedding) before he starts his next training block in the US.  He sure deserves a good rest. And what a wonderful way to finish this bit of the season.   yay
Oh and thanks for the great pics Sylvia  wub

I think he'll play much more Davis Cup now. He's seen what it did for Novak.

The reason he didn't play more Davis Cup was because of the odious Mr Lloyd. Frown

I was wondering about that given the stupid comments that Lloyd made after Wimbledon. Does anyone know if there was an issue between Andy and Lloyd. Got to say that I shed a wee tear watching Andy get so emotional. I love watching him play and hope he competes in more Davis cup games (then I will have more of a chance to see him play in real life one day)

The reason why he stopped playing DC is because it started interfering with his schedule and beyond a certain stage, it's not good enough to have one player do the work, it was a useless effort.  We need to be realistic here, I doubt this will be a turnaround in the way Djokovic, Verdasco etc had because they won the DC for their country, not a Group 2 match.  This win did, however, come at a very good time and stresses the importance of spending time with the guys you've known the longest for and at home which is a beneficial occasional activity.  That's why he got emotional. Smile
