People always say Ferrer is a clay court specialist but I think this is a bit of a myth. His record a Rolland Garros is fairly awful. He got knocked out 2nd round in Monte Carlo and he got well and truly horsed by Fed a couple of days ago. I would actually fancy Andy versus Ferrer. At least he won't get blown off the court like he would versus Berdych.
Nope. Not entirely a myth. He's a clay specialist out and out just like Nadal. Of 14 titles, 8 of them were on clay and that's almost 60% of his total titles. The other six titles are on hard/grass granted, but that’s curtsy of slow courts. Send him back to the 90s and he leaves with only clay titles and perhaps not as many either.
It's worth mentioning that he's made 15 finals so far and 11 of them were on clay - a whopping 79% of total finals. That makes him a true clay specialist. The fact that he hasn’t done much at RG means nothing – because his 8 titles and 11 finals on clay say it all.
