I read something a few weeks ago, during Wimbledon I think, that suggested Andy would be playing Tokyo. Excellent news. In Andy's absence from the final it was nice to see Nishikori win it last year, but I'd love Andy to take it back.

Andy is also playing at the Thailand Open (ATP 250 Event) late September. He won this tournament in 2011 when he went on that long Aisa winning run.

I don't like that switch back to clay in the middle. Part of me hopes he pulls out but I don't think he will.

It's not really in the middle.
He will play a maximum of 3 matches on clay.

Just seeing who else is playing Tokyo, and it's Tsonga, Raonic, Nishikori.
Djoko, Nadal, Ferrer, Berdy, Gasquet, Wawrinka all playing Beijing.

That's a heavy schedule, but at least there's no Basel or Valencia. Leave Basel to the world no.6 or is it 7 or 8 or, by then 9

I think I read somewhere that he might be rethinking the schedule and could pull out of one or both of the lesser tournaments.

I don't see how it is a heavy schedule?
There is a week between Davis cup and Bangkok, and he only plays two matches in Davis Cup.
He will also have 3-5 days recovery between Bangkok and Tokyo since he is a top seed and will start later due to BYE.
It will be the same for Shanghai after Tokyo... of course provided he wins them.
And then at least a two week break between Shanghai and Paris.
And he will probably Tank Paris for the WTF.
So yeah not bad imo.

With respect Prod, two matches doesn't sound much, but it's two best of five set matches on clay. It could also be three matches. I interpreted the DC information as Andy might be playing the dubs as well, so that would be three best of five set matches in three days. Whatever way you look at it, that is a lot of tennis.
If I was thinking of myself I'd love him to play it all, but I do think Andy is mentally weary. My worry is that will make him more susceptible to injury and he does not need that.
It's up to Andy of course. He may well feel better playing than not. I just wonder if there is some sense in him playing DC, assuming he wants to, then taking some time off to get back on his feet before getting himself right for Shanghai, where he has a great record.

Doubles is not much of a toll on the body.
Andy has had schedules like this before and been fine.
I don't think there's much to worry about.

I must say I really like the Asian Swing. Andy usually plays well at this time of the year. It was great in 2011 when Andy dominated this part of the year and Federer was raging. Brilliant.
