I'd like to wish Andy all the best since the tournament is starting tomorrow. I'd have loved to see all of this matches live, but that seems out of the question right now.

Me: What part of last year's Wimbledon was Murray not handling the expectation?

Poster 2: The part where he lost.

Me: Well someone had to. Federer was the better player on the day. He was the deserving winner. I fail to see how Murray losing a match equates to him 'failing to handle the expectation'.

Poster 2: Murray was expected to win last year. He didn't, so he failed to handle to the expectation.

Me: Oh my god you are even dumber than I realised.

Poster 2 is a particularly irritating 16 or 17yo kid who doesn't know the first thing about anything but likes to pretend he knows everything about everything and particularly dislikes me for bringing him up on it.
 
Two week sabbatical from that place I think, less I get the urge to shoot myself as I get shot down by groups of your average uninformed football fan who apparently love Federer and are adamant Murray is an English-hating choker.

I used to have arguments with people all the time about Andy on forums and then i realised it's a futile endeavour to even bother trying as they either have their minds made up and are just too intransigent to even discuss anything with, or they have just jumped on the AMB bandwagon because that was the general concensus and they prefer to be with the masses of sheep who support a player purely due to their success.

It has changed somewhat in the last year, with most people now being singled out as clueless trolls, but they still lurk around every corner. Those type of people don't enjoy being hit with the twin hammer blows of logic and reason, and usually end up just trying to win a debate by quoting how many slams Fed has won or something, usually because they have run out of ideas by then.

I know this is irrelevant but I am currently in an argument with a guy who I chat with about tennis, who claims that based on achievements this year, Ferrer is ahead of Murray (based on ATP race and Slams) meanwhile I said Murray is ahead because he has three titles and a Slam final (one title being a Masters 1000) I also added that ATP Race can be deceiving because it caters people such as Ferrer who enter everything to get wins. Can anyone get some sense into this argument?

I'd agree with your friend. Ferrer has a GS semi and final, a Masters final, two other wins, two other finals and lots of points elsewhere. He has close to 1000 points more than Murray which I find hard to argue with.

And even if you only consider MS and GS, Ferrer is ahead by around 200 points.

The ATP race is just as deceiving as the official rankings and it's the best system we have for deciding who has had the most successful last x months. I assume you'd also argue that Rafa should be considered no. 4?

Of course, all this will change in 2 weeks when Andy wins Wimbledon!

No I actually agreed with him that Rafa is most certainly the No 1 player this year by far. 7 titles, 1 slam.

Yes I know, I said Rafa was the most successful over the past 12 months. He has had more titles than Andy and Nole and Ferrer.

I always think looking at who is the most successful at this point in the year is neither here nor there. Andy has played fewer tournaments than some and he had to skip the French.

I still feel this part of the year, from now until after the USO, maybe after the Asian swing, will be big this year. Can Rafa keep going, can Federer drag something out of the hat, can Andy reach the heights he reached last year, can Novak continue to dominate. It's all a lot of questions. I think we'll only know the answers at the year end.

All I know is that Andy arguably plays his best tennis from now onwards, so the chances are that he's not done yet.
