thanks atl! I think I must have had a premonition as it felt the right time to come back at new year. And where else would I want to be as we come to terms with the sad news?

Found this... Laughed a bit but poor "Andy Murray" is flooded by tribute, or even medical offers on twitter...

Some twit (directed to the real Andy Murray but confused with the other) are really aggressives on Scottish which is far less fun...

@nikko - There are a lot of Andy Murrays around because both are quite common names, probably mainly in Scotland. I've often come across an Andy Murray in the Tennis News 24/7 who has got nothing to do with the AM we all know and love, so the mistake is understandable, although it is quite amusing!
I didn't come across anything anti-Scottish on the real Andy Murray twitter though, but maybe I didn't scroll down far enough. Doesn't really matter anyway because we Scots are used to it from certain quarters south of the border.

Oh dear so sad
So he left Melbourne on the 16th? Where is he now, is he in the UK?

I would think so, because I'm sure he'd want to get back to Kim and the children as quickly as possible. Where else would he go anyway, unless he was planning on flying to New York to consult the 'miracle' hip specialist Bob Bryan is so enthusiastic about -
https://www.hss.edu/physicians_su-edwin.asp
- before deciding on his future plans. He has been in touch with him a few times but no specialist can really offer an opinion without a thorough physical examination first, plus looking at scans and x-rays, and no two cases are ever going to be the same anyway.
Whatever he decides to do it's going to be a very hard decision to make, and one I don't envy him for.

I don't really know what hip re-surfacing is - but it definitely will be a very difficult decision for him.. He might feel better when he sees Kim and the girls and Kim might help him to see his future more clearly.
Bob Bryan is different and no two people are the same. I really hope for the best for Andy - I hope we'll have some more news from him soon.

Possibly because hanging around in Melbourne would do him no good at all.

The main thing really is that Bryan is a doubles player, so less movement round the court and no really long rallies, so therefore less wear and tear on the new hip, something he's pointed out himself, so what might have worked for him won't necessarily work for Andy, particularly given how much he depends on his movement round the court. The only certainty seems to be that he'd be free from pain in his everyday life, and that's all that matters to me.
He's supposed to be making an announcement in the next week or two.

^ I don't know which type of surgery he should choose - a full hip replacement might be better, except it might take a long time for him to recover and he might not be able to play his top brand of tennis with a hip replacement. If he had re-surfacing, it might not last and then he might still have to have the replacement hip done.
I did wonder if he'd go to the same surgeon in Melbourne who he went to last year. But if he's now in the UK he must be looking for a UK surgeon?
Bob Bryan's tennis isn't the same as Andy's and so the surgery for Bryan was possibly more effective because he plays doubles.
When you remember that Andy said he can't take the dogs for their walks without pain. & he can't put his socks and shoes on easily either, it's best that he does decide on surgery - soon. I really don't like to think of him suffering as he has been doing.
So I suppose we'll hear something from him fairly soon.

^ I wondered that too, about him seeing his own surgeon in Melbourne, given that he knows and trusts him, although I'm sure he could recommend somebody in the UK who would be just as good.
Andy's far too young to have a full hip replacement, in the UK anyway, because they have to be renewed every 15 years at most, and with each renewal there's less chance of success, so, although surgeons evaluate each case depending on the level of disability, the youngest he could expect to have one, in theory that is, is when he reaches 45, which presumably is why he's going down the hip reshaping road in the meantime just to be pain-free in his everyday life.

Yes I suppose he is too young to have a full hip replacement if it has to be renewed every 15 years or so

And nor are we likely to know either.

When I read that my first thought was how he was able to do some of the rehab exercises he's been doing, but presumably he just got on it with it despite the pain and kept these exercises to a minimum. Don't know really because I'm not a top class sportsperson!

Thanks wb. I do hope we hear the promised announcement soon about what he plans to do next. Hopefully he'll have the op because the most important thing for him is to be pain free in his everyday life now.
