Andy Tournament update

Andy has pulled out of the Japan Open without giving a reason. He's next expected to take part in the Swiss Indoors in Basel with the ATP 500 event taking place from October 23-30, while he will still play in the Paris Masters. He's also now added the Moselle Open to his schedule, and then to end the season there's the Davis Cup finals in Malaga.

Thanks for the update Aileen. It makes sense. I think you suggested that he might do this last week. He will have time to rethink and time with his family.

I did because I could see no point whatsoever in him hanging around in the Far East for nearly two week, certainly not in the frame of mind he was in. However it does look as though he intended to play in Tokyo because the announcement was only made today with 'injury' being cited by some sources as the reason for his withdrawal (the tournie website hasn't got round to this yet). All I can say is that if has picked up an injury, hopefully a minor one, then it's done him a favour because he does badly need a break.

Rather unfortunate that Andy didn't opt for the European Open instead of Tokyo because had he done so, thanks to withdrawals, he'd have been the No. 4 seed after Tsitsipas, Struff and Bublik. In fact the player field looks more like a Challenger than an ATP 250.

Aww that is a pity Aileen, sounds like it would have been a lot better for him and not humid either.
