Antwerp QF: Andy Murray vs Marius Copil

Quote

It wasn‘t a nail-biter until Andy decided to make it one.
I agree,  He went full blown walk about in the second set.

Some vintage Murray inventiveness in there. Well inside top 200 now. Job well done.

In a semi final tomorrow which will be interesting to see how much energy he has left? He hasn't played so much for quite a time. Dare say he will be pleased to get back to being a parent! Anything is possible in the semi. Perhaps easier to play Pella in my opinion.

I know, but we've been down this road before.  Clearly some things haven't changed.

I’ll have to watch the replay.  Although it’s a lot easier knowing the result.

The semi-final against either Pella or Humbert is scheduled for not before 4 pm BST tomorrow.

Pella reached a career high of No. 20 in July, so no disgrace if Andy loses to him.  On the other hand Ugo Humbert is a 21 year old French whiz-kid, and I'd hate to see him losing there.

Could be an interesting final though should 18 year old Italian wild card Jannik Sinner beat Stan the Man, and probably even more interesting should it be an Andy vs Stan one.

I agree.  I  suppose we have to remember that Andy has had his hip resurfaced, not his personality.  Now and again old habits will appear as they always have.

At the end of the day, he is who he is and I'm always going to support him.  Got to love the boy just for who he is.

Unfortunately the loss of focus from cruise control in the 2nd set and subsequent extra hour or so of tennis has just scuppered his chances of winning this tournament. I really thought he had a chance until this one went 2 and a half hours. Oh well.

Of course I do Elly!  If I didn't I would have been off this forum years ago, or more likely never joined it in the first place.

Look on the positive side - he's got the match practice he wanted and probably a bit more.  I'm sure he'll learn from his mistakes the way he's always done.  It can't be easy for him to keep his focus all the time either knowing that his wife could go into labour any day now.

Here is Andy's interview after the match.  I have chorus practice tomorrow so not sure I can watch the match, but I still believe if he can keep his focus and believe in his serve he could get to and win the finals.  None of us know, but you gotta believe.

watching the P&H match - very tight and currently over 2 hours - so at least Andy will be facing an oppent who has had a tough match
