AO R4 : Murray vs Verdasco

Quote

It doesn't matter how much confidence Verdasco has gained recently, he is going to be very afraid of Murray going by their past encounters...

Murray in 3, 6-4 6-2 6-4.

Fair comments at this stage, I'd say.  Wow - he's not comfortable at all being interviewed......  no

Do you not think it's hard though for players that don't speak great English? Probably waiting anxiously on the British media to take something out of context.

Yes..... you could tell he was struggling with the language and maybe that's what was making him uncomfortable...... that and the questions he was being asked.  Not really fair to put him on the spot like that, I guess.

At least they didn't ask him about his bloody Wimbledon chances. That always makes my toes curl.

Aye..... like that's the only tournament worth winning!  Rolling Eyes  I wonder how much Andy would like to win Wimbly?  I suspect he just looks at it as another tournie..... Shrug

Looking at the OOP for tonight, there wont be a Hisense evening session. Andy should be on Laver day session with Nadal V Gonzalez the Laver night match.

Confidence is really important for Nando I think - he's become much more mentally stronger and doesn't throw away his chances as often as he used to. This is the first potential test for Andy but I'll go for Murray in 4. Smile

What makes you say that? They tend to alternate evening sessions. Nadal just had one, so I doubt he'll be the main event again on Monday.

I think they will make Nadal V Gonzalez the main event. I hope Murray is evening session.

I don't really buy into all this hype about Verdasco to be honest.  Its not as if he had to beat a tennis superstar to win the Davis Cup rubber.  He disposed of the mighty Acasuso, a player barely within the top 50, and a guy Andy made to look like an amateur the last time they played.  Sure he may be more confident, but he has an enormous mental challenge to overcome against someone who has beaten him 5 times previously and when he has never reached the quarter-finals.  Verdasco is a player who - for the moment anyway - is in my opinion performing above his natural level, which is top 30, and not edging towards top 10.  He has big shots but Murray has always beat him EASILY in the past, just being far too solid, and those big flashy shots being pushed too far by Andy's solidity.  Verdasco is not good enough to hit through Andy.

However Andy does need to start better, although it is interesting to note what Safin said in his interview that Murrray spends the first part of a match passively sizing up his opponent, getting a feel for what they can do before executing his well thought out plan to beat them.

Verdasco will hit some eye-catching forehands but Murray will win this.  The tournament starts in the QF against Tsonga which will be a 4-setter minimum.

The thing about tomorrow is I am as certain as I can be that Baghdatis will absolutely thrash Djokovic.  He is a guy waiting to be toppled and Marcos caught my eye at Kooyong and has built up momentum gradually!  If berdy's rockets are fully loaded he could even give Fed a scare.

On another tack, isn't it nice to see Dokic on the run she is?  I wonder where it will end.  Talk about someone playing her heart out, looking forward to to tennis in the morning!

Oh and don't you just hate Nadal's attire?  YUCK!!  It is even worse than Andy's US Open shirt, which i didn't think was possible!
