ATP Basel.

It's "losing" and not "loosing". wink     I am sorry, I can't help it. Frown

This seems to be one of the ones I cannot get right. I am dyslexic, and as child I had a whole collection I would get wrong (e.g. I mispronounced Soldier to mean Salad and vice versa in Luxembourgish). now I am old, and getting rid of them is harder... but keep reminding me and eventually it will store in long-term memory.

That would come holding titles for all compulsories plus the others you played in. Is that actually possible?

It is technically possible, but has never been done before. I am not sure if anyone has even ever had all MS tournaments at the same time. People have had all 4 SLAMs at the same time, but that is ultrarare (Fed's not there yet, and might have to wait until Nadal is injured one year in order to get there...)

So although it is technically possible, it is extremely unlikely, going on practically impossible.

I see..... Smile

I used to spell "professor" as "proffesor" for ages. One day I forced myself to believe the correct thing and never repeated the mistake again. And I don't know the reason, because phonetically "professor" is pronounced the way it is written, unlike "losing".

Out of curiosity, what's Luxembourgish (I prefer calling it Letzebuergesch wink) for "salad" and "soldier"?

I'll remind you whenever I spot it. wink

I'll calculate and tell.....

That'll take some time, so I won't do it now. I need to take a bath and have lunch and everything. Will do it later tonight. This interests me a lot too.

...until Nadal is injured one year....

Or until a combined effort from Messrs Murray, Gasquet, Del Potro and Cilic ends Nadal's domination. wink

But like, during the Clay court with so many big tournaments in a row to win them all would be physical burnout. Not even Nadal could cope with coming from Miami and Wells to Monte, Rome, Hamburg  and RG. And to then still be on form to win Wimbly would be nigh on impossible surely?

if you took off the weeks between RG and wimbly... and if you were fit as a fiddle... mabye its possible... i'm sure fed could do it if nadal wasnt around...

maybe... but neither of them played Hamburg!

only cause they played 5 tight sets for 4 hours the day before... if fed met anyone else in the final he could take them apart most probably...

You can get 8500 points from winning every MS and GS in a year I think. Then you can build on that by winning 5 non-compulsary tournies Smile Breaking 9000 is definatley possible...

Federer is so dominant, that if Nadal was in any other era - he'd be number 1 with his current point total confortably. Right now Nadal is the most successful player ever not to have made number 1 actually (in terms of points gained).

It's mathematically possible to break the 10,000 barrier. Like I said before, I need some time to work this out. Anyone else can do it if they want to....

Am I missing something here  confused They are the same !

Zalot, and Zaldot (I wrote it as we pronounce it, probably not the official spelling!) - one extra d for the soldier...

Ahhhh... sorry, my mistake. roflmao

Edited the original post. The correct spelling is so strongly embedded in my mind that I can't force myself to type an incorrect one. wink

Thanks. That brings my Letzebuergesch vocabulary up to three.

What's the maximum number of points you can get?

Finally started thinking about it....

GRAND SLAMS -

Suppose a person qualifies for the Australian Open and then wins it. After that he wins the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. roflmao

That will give him (1015 + 1000 + 1000 +1000) = 4015 points.

I had almost forgotten about the qualifying factor. Smile

MASTERS SERIES -

He wins all nine Masters Series tournaments.

That will give him (500 x 9) = 4500 points.

ATP TOUR -

He wins the only two tournaments which gives the winner 300 points - Dubai and Barcelona.

Also, he wins three or more of the tournaments that gives the winner 250 points. There are quite a few '250 pointers'.

Doha is one such '250 pointer'. Doha is staged before the Australian Open, so he qualifies for and wins it, getting 260 points for his achievement.

And the cut off for Rotterdam is extremely high, he qualifies for that and wins, getting 260 points again.

A possible combination could be Dubai, Barcelona, Doha, Rotterdam and Kitzbuhel.

That will give him (300 + 300 + 260 + 260 +250) = 1370 points.

MASTERS CUP -

He wins all the round robin matches, the semis and the finals.

He gets ( 100 + 100 + 100 + 200 + 250 ) = 750 points.

So in total, he gets 10365 points!

I'd be really happy if someone found a mistake in my calculations and informed me. hug
