24 year old Etcheverry is an Argentine player currently at his highest ranking of No. 30 achieved in June 2023. The two have played twice before - R1 of Indian Wells last year with Andy winning 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-4, then later in the 2nd round of the Swiss Indoors, which Etcheverry won 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2. After a memorable 2023, Etcheverry didn't have the best start to the new season, losing in R1 of both Brisbane and Adelaide to Tomas Machac and Alexander Shevchenko respectively, although both matches went to three close sets. Andy meanwhile has been working on his serve and the mental side of the game during the off-season, and has vowed to stop getting into too many long rallies, something which Etcheverry seems to like. |

Match is scheduled 3rd on Kia Arena on Monday following a ladies and men's singles. Play starts at midnight GMT so maybe around 5:00 am, although the later the better then we might get to see at least some of it.
Weather is forecast to be hot with possible thunderstorms, so as Kia arena doesn't have a roof play could be interrupted.
Matches can be watched on Eurosport and Discovery+

Andy's playing on the 15h not the 14th! Time zones do my head in, but Missouri is 17 hours behind Melbourne, so 4 pm Melbourne on the 15th is 11 pm Missouri on the 14th. |

Another chastening defeat not far away, not sure what his motivation is anymore. Losing consistently in 1st and 2nd rounds can't be rewarding, it certainly isn't fun to watch but I keep doing it anyway.

Hold to 30 opening service of the third. It's a positive but he's getting no cheap points on serve and the percentage is way too low. Etcheverry dominating from the baseline in the majority of long exchanges. If there was a time for a Murray coaster it's now or never.

Double break 5-2 one of the hardest matches to endure. Will be interesting to see what he has to say in his post match interview as this has been one of the worst performances of his career in a grand slam.
