Australian Open R3: Andy Murray vs Roberto Baustista Agut

Quote

Andy now plays 34 year old world No. 25 Roberto Bautista Agut.  This will be their 7th meeting, Andy having won their first three encounters (Wimbledon 2014, Munich 2015, Shanghai 2016) and Bautista Agut their last (Australian Open 2019, February and October 2022 Doha and Basel).  Bautista Agut, who had a career high ranking of No. 9 in November 2019 and who has 11 ATP Tour titles to his name, reached the final in Adelaide last week, defeating Kokkinakis en route, but lost in three to Soon-woo Kwon, who had entered the main draw as a lucky loser.  In his first match here he defeated Joao Sousa comfortably in straight sets then saw off qualifier Brandon Holt, coming from two sets down to win 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Their last match (roughly a year ago?) was a humiliation for Andy and very painful to watch. Whatever the outcome today, it can only become better. Let’s not forget: The long-lasting match in R2 has not allowed him the perfect preparation, which puts RBA in a better position. We‘ll see.

Hold serve Andy

RBA  - solid as ever. Andy - rusty, erratic and unlucky with some shots.

This next set is yours Andy so take it start by holding serve. You can do this.

Although I can’t see the match, I’m sensing a real tiredness in Andy by the shots he’s losing. But I’ll never count him out. So cmon Andy find the adrenaline you need to get through this match.

Maybe too tough an opponent.

Andy has realised that he cannot afford to get involved in these long rallies. RBA is simply flawless.

Very understandable when you had to play till 4 am the day before

It's clear he can barely move. And it's no surprise. His body can only do so much. He had literally no sleep and then had a day to recover from a 6 hour match with a metal hip. This is easily the worst match for Murray, RBA takes all the time away by hitting the ball so early. It's so sad

Cmon Andy just hang in there and see if you can find a way to get back on serve.
