It's a long time since I've been on MW but I feel so proud of how Andy has shown what he is still capable of during these last 3 matches. I agree with waverlybear that better to go out fighting today than be crushed on Monday because his body has simply had enough, Re Scotsman I thought he walked off with his head held up high to a standing ovation which he acknowledged and he was clapping the crowd with his racquet. And he didn't sound too downbeat from what I've heard of his press conference.
I must admit I groaned when I heard he'd turned back to Lendl for help for, as was argued here at the time, i think Lendl's driving him so hard after 2016 contributed to his physical problems. But it's clear that the time he has spent with Lendl has paid off and it looked in many ways like the old Andy Murray playing out there.

I missed that match by running a Parkrun continually reminding myself to keep going as Andy would. These days I am fighting a mental battle where I keep stopping just because my sub conscious brain thinks, after a fall when I knocked myself out, that it is dangerous. Following an his inspirational example has helped me a few times. Sadly once home Eurosport had Novak not Andy on the broadcast channel and the option to have any match by an App used with SKY has failed to work for me.
That was a super warm-up for Wimbledon. He knows that he has the skills to do well but that there are some shortfalls now in his game which he needs to address. The game has changed a little too so more adjustments for that too. On the radio where one of the commentators was struggling with what would happen next in today's match he was reminded that previously Andy had been described as a 'great contrarian' so never try to predict his state of mind or fitness and then outcome of matches when he plays. May have got 'great' a little wrong but I can now see why I like him so much as an athlete/sportsman. I get the term 'perverse and stubborn' thrown at me which is a similar behaviour style all the time! I think it is because competitive folk are so determined they often have to be all those things.
Ruthie, you mention Lendl but you must realise that Andy pushes himself in exactly the same way as he did. In my opinion Lendl was simply a person that supported by agreeing what Andy might do. Lendl's career is so much the same story - he just played more as he did not have injuries.
Well done Andy for providing such wonderful entertainment this last week.
I agree with the interviewer after R1. We should call him Sir Andy on the court.

Shame that the Murray Rollercoaster came to a standstill. I had just been enjoying it so much.
Re the press conference: Andy‘s facial expression spoke of disappointment to my mind. He was well aware that he had had the chance to reach the second week. All the more important it is to climb up the ranking again to avoid these tough first rounds which sap so much energy. But after all he was pleased with his level and quite rightly so: the change to trying to dictate more points, a more active approach paid off. Good to learn when he plans his next tournament. I will be sitting in front of the screen again.

Which match did you miss?
This is the 2nd Round match. Did you see the Berrettini match??

Btw, Korda has reached the QF with a win in five sets over Hubi, which underlines the brilliant shape he took to AUS.

^Hi Apollo,
I only missed the R3 match as it was on Saturday morning when I often do a Parkrun at 9.00am. I travelled nine miles for that and heard part of the third set on Radio 5 Sports Extra, where they have had a Breakfast Tennis programme for AO, in the car on the way back home.
PS: Like Andy my body was knackered by the sporting activity as I have been away from racing because of injuries but was pleased to get into top third of the runners. For me top 20% is what I expect even as I get older!
Is there any potential schedule for Andy for this year as yet? He very much seems to have the will to compete at the highest level so I can see him wanting to go higher in the rankings so that the path to success in majors is a little easier. Two top 25 seeds and an in-form Kokkinatis 'at home event' is quite a hard task for first slam tennis of the year.

^ Thanks Aileen. Looks like quite an elite group of players so I imagine that he will start with a hard match. If he got a couple of matches there it would be a good bonus on his AO exploits but with the wrong draw it could be a single match in The Netherlands!
I see that Monfils and Wawrinka are also getting wildcard entries.
