Watching both Federer and Kei right now, they will absolutely demolish Zverev - look how both are so positive.
This is what is so frustrating. And Fed would take great pleasure is smashing Zverev, just to rub it in to Andy.

Plus it'll be played at RLA at night when it's cooler and slower so conditions would suit Fed/Nishikori.

Once the tour assesses how Mischa plays, every player will be on their guard and he won't be so fortunate next time.
I agree with that and I wouldn't expect Andy to lose to him if he plays him again.

Just woke up to this. Ouch. I was thinking yesterday that the Zverev boys were the new Murrays. The thing spurring Mischa up is to stop being shown up by his little brother. Wish he'd found a different scalp than Andy
.
Hindsight being 20: 20 and all, but with all the scorching day matches and surfaces speeded to aid Fed, I had an ominous feeling about this AO yesterday. He felt welcomed by the fans as Number 1 but not the organisers. But outstayed by Dan Evans and Jo. Wow what a stunner.

But the tour knows how Zverev plays! And so did Andy - he's known him since juniors. I think people are bigging him up too much. Andy played a shocker and his play was perfect to allow Zverev to believe.

Meanwhile Fed is demolishing Kei. The Andy of today would have got schooled by Fed.

It was a shock to check my phone this morning to see Andy had lost! Glad I didn't see the match tbh...
Sounds like Zverev played an excellent match though, so all credit to him. After all his injury problems, it must feel amazing for him to score such a huge win.
Just goes to show that anyone can be beaten if they have an off day and their opponent is on fire. Really disappointing though as this was a real opportunity for Andy to win with Novak out early. Though looking at how well Fed is playing, Andy could well have lost in the next round anyway.

That is devastating. I knew winning the whole thing would be tough even without Djokovic, but I never thought he'd choke it away against a serve and volleyer journeyman.
That's the lowest ranked player he's lost to in a Slam since I can remember. A decade? Sad to say I don't think he'll ever win the Australian Open now, if he can't even make the last 8 as the number one with his only notable rival already out.
Wawrinka will no doubt win it now just to further rub salt into the wounds. What a shit weekend.

Oh come on. Really? You know what Fed's thinking too now?

ATL has been expressing some concerns that his game has been regressing I.e. becoming less aggressive, getting further behind the baseline etc.
I have been saying this for months. The first responses I had were either that I was pretty much clueless, or that it was down to surface speeds. Then the responses were that Lendl's prescence would solve all the issues. Not sure what people will say now, but I stand by what I have been saying.

Lendl helped him last year.
In what way(s) and to what extent? It isn't 2012 anymore and I can't see any specific or significant changes or improvements in Andy's game over the last eight months. Andy said that Matt Little was the one who made him believe that he could win that WTF match to seal the YE#1.
Andy's had poor - by his standards - results at the last two slams with Ivan's supposedly magical courtside presence. Ivan's coaching or tactics are never questioned, but Amelie's were constantly. Andy constantly came up against Peak Novak during that time. Since Ivan's return he's come up against Slumping Novak twice.
Lendl seemed important in 2012/2013, but I can see a clear influence in Andy's game right now.

The regressions in his game are definitely there, ATL. It's worrying - maybe this is the start of a Djokovic style slump, or even a long term decline.

If my closest competitor lost to someone and I was playing them next, I'd want to make a serious point.

I'm devastated... No more. The idea that raonic or fed could win is devastating me further.
I think we had signs of this in the tournament pre-AO. His game wasn't that well assured, imo. His serve for exemple. Hope this will serve as a catalyst and that this year will not transform from Andy's year to #nextgen year or another Nole's year or worst, fed's year...

Wawrinka has a huge chance of winning this.
I'm rooting for Rafa but I don't think he'll win the tournament.

With regards to Lendl, it was probably a boost initially after the FO. But as a Lendl fan, even I'm questioning whether he's the right choice now.
