Australian Open R4: Andy Murray vs Mischa Zverev

Quote

Andy has shown in the past (before the back op) in 2013 how he can play Lendl's brand of aggressive tennis and it paid off when he beat Federer for the first time in a slam at Australia.

Seeing Nishikori take it to Fed right now with aggressive shot making and fearless play is a joy to watch. Andy is capable of playing the same high octane tennis. Why oh why did he not even do this against Zverev? Force him to adjust his game rather than the other way round. Andy was just happy to bunt it back to Mischa today, if either Fed/Nishi gets a short ball, they will tee off on it and go into the net to kill the point. Andy rolling in his 1st serve was one thing but if he doesn't have a 2nd serve to back himself up, he is sitting duck which proved to be the case.

At least Kei is showing a bit of backbone by taking it to 5.

The idea that raonic or fed could win  is devastating me further.

Why?

I personally don't mind who wins now, except Wawrinka. Anyone but Wawrinka.  Sorry Stan.

My gut says this one is Raonic.

The tournament is now so open which is exciting but equally sad.Wrong game plan from the team.Andy will be fine perhaps his focus was not there today with nle out, one does not know how their minds work. Knowing Andy he will reflect and move on forget it. His life is not just tennis now he has a family.

The more you think about this, the worse it seems to get.

With regards to Lendl, it was probably a boost initially after the FO. But as a Lendl fan, even I'm questioning whether he's the right choice now.
Andy needs someone to help him use his wonderful hands at the net and prolong his shelf life.
Let's face it Lendl avoided the net like there was some snake pit there.
Andy needs Edberg or Boris......and I believe Boris is free......Wink
Oh please, not another Fedal final!
Want Mischa to get it but if not, don't mind Dimi, or Milos or Thiem taking it, a new generation. Then JWT.
All of that unlikely, Probably Stan or Rafa, tho commies were saying Stan has knee strapping?

What I don't get is why Andy has reverted back to a passive style of play under Lendl? Or is it Delgado?

Well he did have someone who was doing that work with him, but he behaved poorly and stopped listening...

I hope that Jamie D can get things back on track.

There's a bit of method in the madness hiring Boris.

Looks like Fed is going to play Zverev. Scary that Fed could win no.18.

He has insider knowledge on Djokovic for a start. Boris has helped Novak take his serve to the next level and improved his mental strength.

Andy played 3 S&V points compared to Zverev's 119.

Boris? That would be interesting, considering how much he seems to be hated on here. If it works for Andy, bring it on. Maybe he can make Andy a bit more ruthless too.

Just to clarify - some seem to be saying Andy's game was actually in decline during his run to no1?

Well it's difficult to say. He was helped by Novak's post FO slump and his game became less aggressive. There were alarm bells when he played against Gerald Melzer in Doha, and allowed himself to be dominated. He did the same against Novak in the final, except in the second set.

I actually agree with bueberry hill perhaps Andy needs someone who can help him more at the net after all Lendl was a baseine player he needs more aggression. Fed called in Edberg which changed his game it is not to late.
