The voice of optimism

It looks to me Andy is now playing top 30 tennis. A few more months of matches and training and he'll be ready for the Aussie Open.

Thiem just too good but a very respectable match by both.
I agree. Too many energy consuming long rallies again though. It looks to me Andy is now playing top 30 tennis. A few more months of matches and training and he'll be ready for the Aussie Open.
Agree with that too. Shame the off-season is so close, and also I don't think he's playing a tournament after Antwerp. Looking forward to the draw for Antwerp. That will be important as from here he needs to win first round matches.
As far as I know Andy is still playing in Shanghai. Antwerp is the week after that.

Just a fantastic performance from Andy against an opponent who rarely made a mistake . I thought he was close to matching him and it gives me a lot of optimism for the future. First serve consistency is the key.

Agreed. It was a fantastic performance. It certainly gives an Andy supporter reason to hope for next year.

Thought Andy's performance was terrific He's not going to outhit, outrun or outlast these "youngsters" but my word he can out guile, outfox and out think them. C'mon Needs his first serve tho. now, even more than in the old days

Same for me. His asian swing so far is very very encouraging. He just lack a little something to compete against the whole top 10. Some matches and training will do the job. Talking about his 1st serve I think it was very good so far. Commies said it was because his hip isn't restraining him anymore for rotation of his body.

I thought that he needs the rallies to gain more confidence and to understand that his old ways of setting up plays for points needs some attention. Too many just too short placements were counter attacked. If he is playing both Shanghai and Antwerp I suspect that is enough match practice to see what needs most attention and then to have a period of working to improve fitness and play by a few per cent more!? I think everyone who watched that would give Andy credit for such a good performance.

Obviously very positive responses, just watching the replay now. We recently moved to Wales to be close to one of our daughters and it has been a very busy time but it is lovely to see Andy making this kind of progress, long may it last. All good wishes to all my friends on Murray’s World.

Yes Elly we are enjoying being close to our daughter and little grandson (the other three are all grown up and just as lovely). Dartmoor will always be our real home but my mobility scooter takes me for long walks along the Prom above the lovely sands and up onto the headlands with Os who benefits from the walks. Wales is a lovely place to explore too. Haven’t had much time to post lately but hopefully things will calm down a bit now.

Sounds grand. Great to see Andy back in contention. Hopefully we can enjoy many more matches. Such a bonus that he’s back!
