Federer says he's been 'hit hard' by Andy's retirement

^  I suppose he might have been "hit hard".  I don't really know.

Apollo thanks for posting the link to player reactions so many of which the media seem to have overlooked.  If I were Andy I think I'd frame the one from Rod Laver!  Do you remember the debates we used to have on MW as to whether Andy is one of the greats of the game?  Well the oracle has spoken.  He is!  What I also like is how many of them talk about him as a person not just a tennis player.

And I also like how many of his fans refer to him as "our Andy" .     He is a star and a multi millionaire but he is still one of us.    He is respected, admired and loved beyond telling.

^Nicely put iluvandy.   Yes he's very much 'our Andy', which is partly why his enforced retirement will leave such a big hole.

I would close my eyes or hide behind the couch like many others on MW get very nervous when Andy played. I remember saying I would need to stop this silly behaviour because I'm a grown up and not a kid.

But needless to say, I haven't I still got upset and tight when our Andy was in a tight match. I know it is silly but I am sure many others on MW did the same.

Unfortunately, these days will pass but I am sure many on MW will miss Andy and recollect all the tight games and sigh with relief when he won. He won his hard matches and filled us with pride, a joy to watch and the joy and happiness he gave to us all.

I'm kind of glad that we've had 1.5 years of Andy being out of action so I've got used to not seeing him play every week. If he retired in early 2017 it would have felt even worse.

notnek I've felt the same.  Though it feels pretty bad even so!
Lb I'd happily cower behind the couch (or on the landing in my case) once more just to experience the joy of watching Andy play his magical tennis again and the even greater joy when he won.

I find that tweet a bit 'like' rubbish.  Nobody died...  Andy has so much to give and if it's not for him it will be for someone else and he'll pass on his experience without any jot of self.

He might not even have retired!  Says he's thinking about having a major op on his hip and possibly coming back after that, if it's possible -
