If there was a situation because of the appointment of Amelie then Dani and Jez really had no right to question who Andy appointed, he is the one paying the wages and he could appoint who ever he felt he needed for his game at this stage of his career without consulting his team. However I don't think this was the case. I believe he felt he needed a change for the reasons that have already been stated.

A sky sports article about the IPTL (link in the new articles thread) suggests that this event will be "the first chance to see him under his currently unnamed back-room staff". Hmm. So soon? Interesting also that Jez Green is not being replaced.
and I've just discovered Sky Sports 3 is showing it with Andy's matches today, tomorrow and Sunday at 11.30am. And then he's off to Miami I think leaving the second rung of players at it till Dec 13th! Andy, Nole and Fed did well I think to negotiate a token weekend appearance.
On the question of the changes, so many people have been arguing he needed to change things and perhaps he too now felt the need and that the current team had got stale? I think he does need a 2nd coach as there are still many weeks when Amelie won't be there despite her devoting more time than Lendl did. Also the 2nd coach has to organise practice sessions and stuff.
If, as it seems, letting Jez Green go points to a new approach to his fitness regime this sounds like a good thing to me given Andy is no spring chicken anymore. More emphasis on pilates and yoga and a less punishing regime sound like a good thing to me and should help extend his playing career, which he does seem to be thinking about now. Let's trust Andy to know what he's doing. He's usually been pretty shrewd with such decisions in the past.

Well I was certainly happy to see Jez go, partly because, as Andy says, his body needs to be handled in a different way now, i.e. not subjected to Jez's punishing fitness sessions, but also it will hopefully mean more time on court sorting out his tennis and less in the gym.
Also when you say the current team had perhaps got stale, it occurs to me that Jez and Dani may have wanted a change in their own lives, so rather than seeing Andy as having 'dumped' them (to quote more than one newspaper headline), they might actually have been glad to have the chance to go off and do other things, especially Dani who has a degree in finance and business management at the University of Miami?

I agree Aileen perhaps they all realised that change would do them all good - and that was rather implied by Andy's statement though one can't always read too much into those as we know!

correction: Andy won't necessarily be playing at 11.30 as it appears they decide the order of play at the start of the session. It's just his sessions that start at 11.30am gmt ie the night sessions in Manila. It all looks great fun I have to say and as Andy only has to play one fast set an evening I don't think it's going to take too much out of him and I think he'll enjoy the team spirit there seems to be among the players.

I get the feeling that there's no hard feelings between Andy and Dani in particular because Andy looks too happy for anything to be amiss - something I don't think just getting engaged to Kim would do! Also if their friendship is as strong as Andy has always claimed, and we know how much close friendships mean to him, then it will survive whichever direction their respective paths take in the future.

Andy has got rid of the only thing giving him a bit of balance at the moment, apart from Amelie, a very decent corner. Unfortunately only she remains now. Primed to further ruin Andy.

On the subject of Andy's team and Mauresmo, andy was asked to respond to Henman's comments at his IPTL press conference. Dismisses the notion that she's the one who's made him play defensive. Link to article below.

Pre-Mauresmo, I can remember Tim Henman constantly using his favourite word "pro-active" referring to the need for more aggression in Andy's style of play. It's nothing new.

Welcome to the Boogers' Club Connor.
Maybe you should read the article linked to above and see what Andy has to say, for one thing that he and Amelie have only spent about 6 or 7 weeks together since she was appointed as his coach, so therefore not exactly a huge amount of time spent working on his game. What does anyone expect? Overnight miracles? Any noticeable improvements are going to take time to show, something I think any coach would tell you,
I really wish you and others would get off her back and stop blaming her for everything, and give the partnership a decent chance before pronouncing judgement.

oh all these backseat coaches Aileen think that they know it all. Well he's just got engaged to the person who probably brings most balance to his life Connor. I don't think letting go of Dani would be a decision Andy took lightly so I for one am ready to trust he know what he was doing and why.
And the idea that Amelie would be encouraging Andy to play more defensively just seems laughable to me. Henman doesn't seem to be taking account of the fact Andy appears to have lost a lot of confidence post-op and it's therefore perhaps not surprising if he reverts to his default more defensive game. He was playing more attacking tennis today against Monfils even if he lost in the end. It was good to see him coming to the net more and usually with very good results.

Have been having trouble logging in but seems okay now. Andy is at the end of a busy year and I thought he did not play to badly against Monfils and this tournament should be seen as it is. It,s not of any real importance and no points are being fought for. I am sure Andy once he gets a proper rest and gets to Miami will feel better. He has had his moments at this tournament and has not played badly. Really some people on MW should cut him some slack and I am sure they know who they are.As for Mauresmo, give her a chance people are to quick to judge her. Patience is a virtue and too many on here have none.

If Amelie wishes him to play more aggressively, and Andy claims to share her view, then I hope we will really see that next year. Yet, the question remains why he has gone back to the pushing style recently.

@Ruthie, @Littlebuddha
- Thank you for your positive comments, all of which I agree with, and for an update on the IPTL which the BBC scores hasn't caught up with yet. However, having just looked at the scores on its website, it would seem that Andy beat Gael 6-1 ... so maybe I'm missing something!
Mind you, I do find the whole thing a bit confusing!
I've just had a look at the thread as well. Not impressed by the usual moaners!!

That confuses me too, CP. Maybe though, for whatever reason (lack of confidence perhaps?), he found it easier to play that way. I'm not too worried right now but I will be if he's still playing that way come the AO.
