Cincinnati R2: Murray vs Youzhny

Quote

Have you see this clip of Baghdatis smashing four racquets during his match against Wawrinka at the 2012 AO?

And then there was the time Goran Ivanisevic smashed up three racquets at a tournament in Brighton in June 2000, only to discover he had no racquets left.  He declined to borrow one from another player and so forfeited the match as well as incurring a fine.

Oh yeah i seen them all Very Happy Baghdatis was especially humorous, had the comms in stitches lol

No worries Bev.  A good job as usual. Smile   Isn't it 3am for you though, which is even worse?

I do wish people would go by the official OOP.  Apart from anything else schedules can be changed at the last minute.

Sky also got it wrong, saying the match would be early evening, and I'm not sure how a local newspaper which went to press in the early hours of Tuesday at the latest could possibly know the time of a match on Wednesday, particularly given the time difference.

Oh no!  Andy never plays well in morning matches. Frown

Is that really still true?  I'm not sure that Andy still has the same problems with the morning that he had when younger?

I think Andy in 3. He might still be a bit rusty but I don't think the match timing will affect him too much.

I'm sure he said he used to have a problem with getting up in the morning, but it much better these days! lol

cmonandy   & bless him again for Wimbledon.  My mother & I got to see him win that (on TV) before she died last month at 98, on top of seeing his great successes last year!  Thank you, Andy, you were a huge part of her life for years, your upcoming matches were always of great importance to her, giving her always something to look forward to.  Your successes were definitively one of her greatest joys.

For most us "regular people" 11 am is not early at all, even taking into account the pre-match preparations. He didnt have a late night match yesterday, so no excuses and no worries here, said she, confidently. w00t

Come on Andy  cmon yeah

The Andy doesn't like early matches is getting tiresome now....he's a professional player number 2 in the world, he should be able to wipe people like this away in 2 sets no matter  what the time of day.

Youzhny was good yesterday, don't get me wrong, but he was helped quite a bit by Gulbis, who was a shadow of the man who beat Andy last week. If you want a model of inconsistency, then Mr. Gulbis might be the place to start. He was poor yesterday.

I don't think the time of day will come in to it much. I don't think it bothers Andy anymore than it bothers some of us. Trouble is, if he's on early we worry it's too early, if he's on late we say he hasn't got a lot of time between matches. If it's in the middle of the day it's too hot.

I think Andy will be sharper this week. Those doubles matches should have helped. Losing to Gulbis won't have gone down that well either, I'm certain, although Andy did warn people that he wouldn't be at his best in Montreal. I think he'll be motivated in Cincy.

I like Youzhny, I have a bit of a soft spot for him, racquet smashing and all Smile. I just feel that Andy will have too much game for him, and will be keen to make a good show of things. If Andy starts off a bit slow, Andy in three, but if he comes out playing as we know he can, Andy in two. Either way, I can't see Andy losing this one. Don't you dare Murray! Smile.

I don't believe Andy minds early matches, he was due on the Centre Court for a Practice session around 8am, so he will have been up a few hours before that. I think some people are making an issue where there is none. After all he has to adjust all the time to different time zones which must be far harder, at least there has been no time change from Montreal to Cinci and he has been in the Us for a month so his body clock will be well adjusted now.
One of the advantages of the first match is at least you know when you are playing and you can get your food intake and physio etc done.
