Dubai Tennis Championships 2012

Hopefully he faces Berdych in the quarters, hasn't beaten him in years.

There will be some tired (or maybe match fit) players in Dubai.

Del Potro and Llodra are in the final in Marseille tomorrow.
Tsonga lost to Del Potro in 2hours 49 minutes and is now an hour into a doubles semi - final and may play again tomorrow.

In Dubai 1st round Llodra plays Fed, Del Po plays Dolgo, Tsonga plays Baghdatis. Fed may not get his usual early start in the schedule!

...........and Tsonga is through to doubles final after 1 hr 35 mins - so about 4 and a half hours of tennis today!

Llodra normally has very little chance against Fed, and now he is playing the final tomorrow against Delpo he will be knackered and then get hit with the flight, the 2 hours time lag with little time to get accustomed to the fast court. Fed must be laughing at it all lol

I like Andy's draw.  A nice easy Qualifier in the first round to warm up, followed by a decent work out with a half injured Davydenko (or another Qualifier) in the second round.  Berdych will give Andy a good workout to prepare for Nole in the SF where we can see the fruit of Andy's latest training and then Andy can finish off Fed for the trophy on Sunday Saturday lol

The first match for Murray will be on either Monday or Tuesday because the final is on Saturday.  Federer will play Llodra and Del Potro will play Dolgopolov on Tuesday.

Murray has only met Berdych 4 times before and it is 3-1 Berdych.  Only 2 matches in the last 6 year both in Paris.  One at RG 2010 and the other three months ago.

Andy never plays on a Monday... He always has to play catch up to the great Fed.

I'd assume that Marseille would be a fairly fast court... though maybe I'm totally wrong about this one. Think

Can't wait for the start of this tourney feels like a lifetime since we saw Andy on the tennis court.  Would love to see him lift this title.  Bit worried about Berdych as he does appear to be a bit of a "bogey" player but never will there be a better time for Andy to change this.  My ideal tourney, Andy to take out Berdych then Djoko the taking Frauderer in the final 6-2, 6-2,!!!!!! cmonandy

Hmm...  you are probably right with playing conditions could be relatively similar between Marseille and Dubai.  So Llodra is only knackered from the final duel with Delpo, jet lagged, and has merely one day or two to recover and get ready for the new tournament.  I rate his chances as almost non-existent.  He will probably push Fed pretty hard in the first set (might even win it) then run out of juice soon after.

It will be like taking candy from kiddies eh Phil.

Sure Robbie.  It will be child's play for Andy now that Mr. Lendl's sage advice will be fresh in his mind lol

If only!

Ah. We can always hope and dream.  You never know. Andy may really surprise us on court this week. Finger's crossed Smile

Aileen, apologies.I really meant Andy is fine most tournaments these days. It's a very strong field and I hope he does try out some new stuff but also hope he keeps his mouth shut this time if he does.
Not like you to make mistakes BBH. Smile

Even better, Philip - the time lag is +3 hours! (and for the benefit of all on here, Dubai is GMT +4).

I hope you're right about an easy Qualifier and that Andy doesn't get faced with a whiz-kid.  As for the rest ... happy, happy thoughts ...!

Thank you Smile

The good thing about qualifiers is that by definition their development is not yet complete (otherwise they would be racing up the ranking).  Andy style is very versatile so would be able to take advantage of any unpolished aspect of a player's style.

If the guy's movement is a bit slow then Andy will move him around the court before coming in to finish off the point. If the guy is too comfortable at the baseline and not comfortable with volleying then Andy will drop shot to draw him in for the killer passing shots and/or lobs.

If the guy has a big FH then Andy can consistently target his BH.  If the guy hasn't fully developed his stamina, then Andy will give him the good run around and take his legs away lol
