Gijon Open R2: Andy Murray vs Pedro Cachin

Quote

Pedro Cachin is a 27 year old Argentinian player currently ranked at a career high of No. 61, who has played mainly on the Challenger Tour.  Cachin, who ended 2021 ranked No. 250, added former world No. 2 Alex Corretja to his coaching team at the start of the year, and as a result has had his best season so far, having reached seven Challenger finals and winning four of them, all of them on clay.  Although he failed to qualify for the Australian Open and Wimbledon, he did qualify as a lucky loser for the French Open where he defeated Norbet Gombos in round 1 before exiting in straight sets to Hugo Gaston in the next round.  At the US Open, Cachin entered the main draw as a direct entry and defeated both Aljaz Bedene and wildcard Brandon Holt in five sets, with both fifth sets going to a super tiebreak, but then lost to Corentin Moutet in four.  He didn't play again until the Lisbon Challenger nearly four weeks later, where he was defeated in three by Gastao Elias in his opening match.  In round 1 here he saw off qualifier world No. 279 Alexey Vatutin 7-6(7-2), 6-0.

Let's hope Cachin has lost his US Open form...

My phone says that's 700 am Central time (Missouri), still 6 hours difference.

I know, but play starts at 11:00 am BST, the match before it is the 4th seed Francisco Cerundolo vs Qualifier, Manuel Guinard, so it could be over in a couple of hours - or it could take longer, hence the estimate.

Oh Okay, I will get up at 6 am so I don't miss it.  Thanks

Corretja of all people will know the right gameplan to exploit Murray's weaknesses. Can't comment on this Cachin bloke though, but he's definitely heading in the right direction. You'd hope Murray would have the answers on a hard court against a clay courter though!

Pedro being good on the Challenger tour should ring warning bells for Andy. He needs to go out there and be ruthless and do it in two. Letting the Argentinian into the game could spell disaster but I am crossing everything that Andy really wants this win and will go for it hard.

Yes I agree. Cachin will be battle hardened and has played a lot of competitive tennis over the last year. And I'll be honest, the difference between some of the Challenger and ATP 250 fields is often negligible.

Cerundolo has just won the first set in the preceding match on a tie break so it could be a lengthy match!  Now 12:30 in England.

I cannot believe how bad the service provided by Tennis TV is. So many issues and bugs. I'm gonna end up using the free stream at this rate!
