BNP Paribas Open 2014 R4: Andy Murray vs Milos Raonic

Masaka, why are you so emotional about what is said on a forum? lol.

Why don't you start World War III over it? You'll be good at that.
Stop it Gangsta and go and get on with some study. One thing you obviously have to learn is how to communicate with others. Nothing wrong with differences of opinion but really you go beyond the bounds of reason sometimes. You cannot see farther than the end of your nose and that will take time to improve. I feel Raonic will be a stiff and difficult match but if the will to win is anything to go by yesterday's match was proof that Andy has all it takes to beat him. I voted Andy in 3, one thing he certainly deserves is support for all the effort he puts in, however awry his game is. I'm off out to lunch with a friend now and hope the wrangling on here ceases.

Enjoy your lunch, Jan!

I find it quite sad, and more than a little disturbing,  that a teenage boy has little else to do but spend all hours of the day and night on a tennis forum throwing insults at people he doesn't know - many of whom are probably old enough to be his grandparent.

Probably - that's what makes it so sad but no less irritating.

Although I believe Raonic will win, sorry to be so 'negative' so to speak but I just can't predict a match in a way I don't think it will pan out, I do have to keep reminding myself that despite the rustiness in certain parts of Andy's game he still has a world class return. That's something he's never lost, even when he returned it was decent enough. Also despite the confidence issue I think Andy has shown he has good mental fortitude over the past few months. It's not been easy for him but not once, despite what some would like to say, has he given up, he's fought till the last point and always just been beaten by players playing better Tennis than him. With Rafa now out, Andy could force his way into the Semi Final's, and given he never plays well at IW, I'd be more than pleased with that result.

The problem is Andy isn't as motivated as the guys he is playing against. His opponents are seeing matches against Andy as career highlight and are 100% up for it.

If you don't believe me look at the last 2 matches where Andy has been a set and a break down (same versus Simon in Acapulco). On average Id think about 80% of players a set and a break down in a 3 setter will lose the match. The fact Andy has gone onto win in each occasion says to me he isn't getting out of 1st gear until he is facing defeat. Its poor stuff from a professional athlete and its the reason Joker and Rafa are miles ahead of him in the rankings. They are always up for it no matter what.

The good thing about this match-up is Andy loves neutralising these huge servers so he's going to be up for this one and will win in 2 sets.

I always think this h2h is not that relevant. Raonic won the first one, on clay. He also beat Andy in Japan right after the USO win. Andy had match points in that match though. It's often portrayed as a drubbing, but it wasn't. The match points weren't even on Andy's serve. In between was the USO. Raonic had a lesson he's hardly likely to forget that night. Raonic's return game was woeful. Andy was all over him like a rash.

I think it's a tough call at IW. If Andy can start well and keep the momentum he can definitely win, but if he opens the door to Raonic it will be tough.

I don't agree with the description of Raonic as a brick wall. At his best Andy is a brick wall. I'd say something similar about the other top players - with the exception of Brittle Berdych. Still, if Raonic is a brick wall I'll look forward to watching Andy climb right over him.

Andy in 3 tight sets.

The main thing is, not to get into a dialogue with these people.  It's pretty much like feeding them.

Raonic in 3
I'd say Raonic in 2 but I don't think (if I remember correctly, i was wincing a lot anyway) Andy's ROS is too off.
Honestly this tentativeness is very uninspiring.
Not forgetting that Andy can be very surprising from time to time when written off.
He got off to a really good start and then he let Vesely right back in.
I noticed Dolgopolov saw off Nadal with a crap serve last night.
Very watchable player is Dolgo, less erratic now.
Poor Rafa, I fear he's not going to have an amazing year again, staying true to his pattern of good year on/off.
Might be time for a `break`.
Felt for him looking so dejected on the buggy  but thought it was nevertheless a strange time to go off for a few rounds of golf, it being dark an all  and just losing 800 plus points  devil
Honestly, there are about 10 players playing way way better than Andy is at the moment.
Enough of the hanging on crap, got out there and impose yourself!

Not willing to call this one.  So on the fence my arse has splinters!  Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the match.

Well, I hope you can get them out of your `arse` soon enough Elly.
Splinters that is!
An Andy victory should prove a most efficacious salve no doubt

Yesterday was a blip, he still managed to win and to be fair to andy it is easy to get complacent when you had such a easy start against someone who is less known, he know Roanic's threat and knows he can't be subdued, .it all depends on who wants it the most.     Murray in 3 Smile
