IW QF: Murray vs Del Potro

Quote

We've been waiting for this one for a long time haven't we?

Del Potro is in ominous form, after hammering Tommy Haas 1&2. Del Potro is yet to drop a set, having beaten Davydenko, Phau and Haas en route, whilst Murray has dropped just the one in his opening round match, beating Donskoy, Lu and Berlocq.

These two haven't met since 2009, where Murray won in three. The H2H is 5-1 in Murray's favour, but so much has changed since their last meeting that it doesn't mean much. I'm sure Bev will provide the H2H later.

Well it looks like Murray/Delpo and Nadal/Federer same tasty QF's.

Yeah, but theH2H gives me some more confidence.
But the fact that Del Potro hasnt lost a set yet gets me nervous..

Delpo is playing the much better tennis.   It should be a 3 setter.  It Should be good.

This could either be a tasty QF or an absolute shambles.

Delpo playing well, and the high bounce at IW helps him, but I'm confident Andy will up his game, but I think it might take him three sets.  He did say he might need to hussle a bit in the early matches, which he's done.  He's got a day off now, and will have a chance to reflect on how he needs to play against one of the bigger boys.

I know people are fretting that Andy isn't playing his best, but Djokovic, Fed and Nadal haven't been playing 100% amazing tennis either.  And loads of seeds left early this year - and Andy wasn't one of them this year.   So I'm going to try to be sensible and not panic.  I reserve the right to be  nervous as the match approaches, but I'm like that no matter how or how he's playing. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Been awaiting this match for a while now, finally it happens, two of my favourites going head to head. Can't wait!

It says Delpo is 3 inches taller but 13kg heavier?? Yikes! No wonder he serves fast with all that behind it!

I can't wait for this match! Two of my favourite players. Smile It's been too long since they last played each other. Delpo's been struggling with a left wrist injury recently - before the tournament there were reports that he has to ice it every night - so that might be a factor in the match. He's been using a slice backhand a lot more to rest the wrist.

Even fully fit though, I'd favour Andy in this matchup because of how much better he can move around the court and how he can play with variety, especially round the net. Delpo's such a great competitor though, so I wouldn't be surprised by a close 3-setter.

Hmmm well I'll say Andy in 3 but this will be difficult.  We've seen how tough it's been for Andy to play through the court and the high bounce will give DP more time to recover his position in the rallies.  Still, the Berlocq match will tell him just how it's going to be - hard and brutal.  For DP to win, he'll need to do it in 2 cos he'll get knackered playing Andy
