I don't think Fed can afford to do that as he will make himself vulnerable to being ousted himself if Andy beats Ferrer.

For the conspiracy theorists out there, Federer just has to make sure he wins 6 games (if they're all in one set, and he gets bagelled in the other), or 5 games to guarantee his own progress.
However, he has to win the match to guarantee top place.

But remember, Andy will qualify whatever happens in Federer's match, if he wins in straight sets, and wins 6 more games then Ferrer.
