Madrid R3: Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic

Quote

How disappointing. I think it sounded as if he wanted the game so this withdrawal is surely sad to him. They are saying that he has all the symptoms of food poisoning. Surprised that they did not just postpone it a day albeit that makes problems with timetables.

MURRAY PULLS OUT OF MATCH SAYS UNWELL.
He has Food poisoning which started yesterday.  He was feeling better this morning but realised an hour before the match was due to start that he just couldn't play - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10785149/Andy-Murray-WITHDRAWS-match-against-world-No-1-Novak-Djokovic-Madrid-Open.html

Pity, he was playing his best stuff in years.

Oh no so sorry, such bad luck. Hope he'll soon be well, he'll be so disappointed.

At least it's not another injury! He'll be fine in a couple of days and can then fly to Rome and get stuck into the qualies.
I doubt it will make any difference to all the hard work he's done, that's for sure.
I make it almost a year since he's been injured btw, since he got that weird groin injury. Don't want to tempt fate, but that's very encouraging in his comeback journey!

^ We know that he will not get a wildcard into the Rome main draw. They have all been handed out to Italians. He could now with his ranking get an entry if there was a withdrawal.  Comms today said that qualies start on Saturday so we need to see draw soon.

Sorry hear that Andy is unwell.  Food poisoning can sometimes take a few days to recover from.  He might not be fit for qualies by Saturday.

The good thing about it: Andy can leave the Madrid Open with a victory over a very good opponent and the feeling of being able to play on a really high level. I am curious to know about his next steps.

^ I wonder what he'll decide to do next too. Flying to Rome and playing qualies on Saturday might be too much as he'd have hardly had any time to recover.

He has food poisoning, that is the reason. I did not see a limp and if that was the reason he would have stated injury not sickness.
