Andy plays next week at Memphis so I thought we could start.

Here is the player list http://www.atptennis.com/Memphis/includes/TrackIt.asp?file=/memphis/pdf/atplist2006.pdf

Very few top 20 players so Andy can do really really well. :P

Andy is approx 15th highest ranked for Memphis. Although that could all change if he beats Wang. Go kid go!

so does that mean its actually a stronger draw than san jose cos is he not 6th highest ranked after the pull outs

Yeah it's tougher than san jose.

It is tougher than San Jose yes but provided he avoids Roddick or Gonzalez in the early rounds he can make real progress. It is possible for him to make it to the semifinals, with luck he may even win the tournament.

Ok So this is the confirmed list in seeding order

Roddick, Andy USA 3
Gonzalez, Fernando CHI 11
Ginepri, Robby USA 16
Robredo, Tommy ESP 19
Blake, James USA 23
Kiefer, Nicolas GER 24
Mirnyi, Max BLR 33
Hanescu, Victor ROM 37
Malisse, Xavier BEL 39
Haas, Tommy GER 41
Sanguinetti, Davide ITA 45
Novak, Jiri CZE 47
Tursunov, Dmitry RUS 55
Beck, Karol SVK 58
Carlsen, Kenneth DEN 61
Murray, Andy GBR 62
Bjorkman, Jonas SWE 64
Goldstein, Paul USA 66
Karlovic, Ivo CRO 67
Clement, Arnaud FRA 68
Zib, Tomas CZE 69
Spadea, Vincent USA 75
Johansson, Joachim SWE 76
Soderling, Robin SWE 77
Pavel, Andrei ROM 82

So if you look at it there may be a good few (15) players above Andy (at the moment) but they're all in the 30's-50's not the top 20. All very beatable. You kind of have to look at how they've been playing recently and besides the top 20 players, who will always be a threat I think he'll also have to watch guys like Haas Malisse, Kiefer and (ranked lower) Karlovic. Good chance of a favourable draw though.

Gonzalez, Hanescu and Beck are out.

So if Andy can leap frog Carlsen, Tursunov Novak and Sanguinetti this week he'll be seeded, or if others drop out. Mind you, aren't the seedings done before this week's results effect ranking?

Hes actually at 60 this week, not 62..

Yeah seedings are done before new rankings. So some top-59 dropouts would be useful again.

How many players get seeded for the Tournament?  Anyone know?

There'd need to be a big drop out then to get Andy seeded, he must be about 13th now with the 3 that have already dropped out.

I'm starting to think that Andy being seeded isn't that important.  I mean theres been quite alot of seeded players going out in the First Round this year.  I think its just about the luck of the draw.
