Miami Open R1: Andy Murray vs Dusan Lajovic

Quote

So sad for Andy. Andy tried his best, but Lajovic was too good.  Andy had many wild shots and that didnt help. A very frustrating match for all of us but especially for Andy. Did he look past this guy? Did he figure he had the win in his pocket??  Or did he just get out played?

Very disappointing after so many good results but in the end Lajovic was the better player.  I could be wrong but I think the last time Andy went out in round 1 here was in 2011.

Quite shocked that Andy is out in the first round, he has been playing really well of late. He did quite well at Indian Wells and it's never been his best tournament.

Thanks for that Aileen, just wasn't moving right and nothing went right for him.

Comms mentioned the court conditions favouring Lajovic, but tey were certainly quicker than in IW. Andy‘s words suggest that there was a noticeable difference between the courts in Miami, which he apparently did not cope with very well.
Shame he could not win a few rounds and improve his ranking. So it is one step forward, then again a slip in the ranking. Hard to find him in the top 30 any time soon.

While it does seem very unlikely at the moment, how much further up the rankings he could get depends on how many tournaments he plays on clay, and that includes the French Open which he says he wants to compete in.  Last year he only played in Madrid, and that was just two matches, so not many ranking points to defend.

Sounds like a decent chance to gain points. Let‘s wait and see which tournaments he intends to play.
