Miami Open R1: Andy Murray vs Dusan Lajovic

Quote

Dusan Lajovic is a 32 year old Serbian player currently ranked No. 76, with a career high of No. 23 achieved in April 2019 after he reached the final of the Monte Carlo Masters where he lost to Fabio Fognini in straight sets.  A regular player for his country in team competitions, he has won seven Challenger titles and one ATP singles title acquired at the Croatia Open in 2019.

A series of defeats in the latter part of 2022, including on the Challenger circuit, saw his ranking drop out of the top 100 in November for the first time in ten years, but a title win at the Maspalomas Challenger in December was enough to ensure direct entry to the Australian Open where he lost to Denis Shapovalov in four.  He thereafter reached the quarter-finals in the Argentina, Rio and Chile Opens, losing the first two to Carlos Alcaraz and the third to Tomas Martin Etcheverry.  At Indian Wells he retired during his first match in the qualifying,

A clay-courter who looks to dominate opponents from the baseline, Lajovic is best known for his kick serve and strong flowing groundstrokes, especially his one-handed backhand.

Oh thanks, I did not see the Womens match.

^ I expect we shall see Andy try to move Dusan about the court to get him off the baseline.  Let us hope that Andy's drop shot is better this week?

^ I hope so too and doesn't get involved in lengthy baseline slogfests which to me are just a waste of energy.

The Raducanu match lasted just under three hours with Emma losing, so this match will be later than estimated depending on how the men's singles goes.

Bublik is serving to stay in the match at 2-5 in the second, which he does, so Wolf hopefully serving it out.

Match over.

Not sure what Andy's doing, just wandering around in some sort of enclosed area doing a few exercises, and at that point the stream cut off.

Very nice start for Andy. If he keeps up this kind of serving he should do well—solid serving seems really important for his confidence. Fingers crossed. I see Lendl is there...
