Miami R3: Andy Murray vs Grigor Dimitrov

Quote

He doesn't look as if he is enjoying his time on court at the moment.    Strange match altogether.   To start with it looked like Dimi wanted Andy to win....then Andy wanted Dimi to win.......then Dimi couldn't believe his luck when he actually did win.     Comms ultra positive about Dimi....Petch saying he's still only 24 and Andy will be 29 this year.    I haven't checked it but I'm pretty sure Dimi will be 25 the day after Andy is 29.    They do get carried away sometimes.
I've just checked ILA, and you're right.  My comm was getting carried away too, like Dimitrov was the greatest thing since sliced bread - completely overlooking Dimi's own prolonged slump which saw him go from wonder boy to a 2nd rate player.

Where did you see it Apollo?  I'm asking because Andy's UK lady fans are very keen to see a pic of Sophia but so far nothing has appeared, although with a bit of searching I found this one in Hello magazine of a very happy-looking Kim taking Sophia out before they left for Miami.

I will have my daughter send it to me and I'll post it.

Thanks Apollo.  That would be great.

Me too Bev... not a good start to the working week and no tennis to look forward to at the weekend..

You will have to throw your support behind Jo Konta, if you're able. No TV coverage for me and will probably be at work when she plays. I shall follow her on livescores.

We'll have to cross our fingers. Jo gets Azarenka next.

Wow Andy was rubbish. Even at the start of the match his body language as appalling.

However after Grigor's first 2 service games when Andy was 0-40 and 15-40 I thought well there is no way Andy can lose this. Grigor has absolutely no confidence in his game at the moment. Lo and behold Andy's dire play gives Grigor all the confidence he needs and a match that Joker would have won 2 and 2, Andy manages to lose in 3 sets.

My immediate thoughts are this is Andy of 2-3 years ago when he only peaked for the Slams. Last year he was coming back from an injury and so had a lot to prove. Therefore he gave his all in every match and his consistency was therefore the best of his career and he ended up number 2.

This year I think he is again looking at Masters tournaments as barely worth winning. In a way he's peaking now for the Slams AND the Davis Cup.

So I'm not optimistic about the clay court season at all. Until Roland Garros that is when he will switch to Grand Slam mode. Unfortunately I see Andy losing a few spots in  the world rankings this year. 4 or 5 his likely year end position.

Fleming thinks that Dimi can be number one. That shows how much crap he talks.

The reality is that Andy has played poorly all year. He got to the AO final, but really struggled there too.

I'll never forget McEnroe's quote after Grigor beat Andy in the QFs at Wimbledon a few years back. He said that he [Grigor] would win "Multiple Slams". What a load of cobblers that prediction has turned out to be. Just shows that even the legends of the sport can spout utter nonsense.

Goes to show how far ahead of everyone else Joker really is. The guy is so far in front now no-one can even see him. His form is 100% for just about EVERY single match he plays.

@Big Nose - He played badly in IW, but I had hoped for some improvement here because he usually does well in Miami.  He needs to sort himself out pdq otherwise he could be losing fans as well as ranking points, because the truth is that Andy's behaviour has left a lot to be desired since Bjorkman was in charge because he made no attempt to stop this habit and in fact seemed to condone it by saying he'd done the same during his career and, according to Andy, even swore during practice sessions.  Fortunately if anyone can put it right it's Amelie, but I doubt if even her patience is limitless.  Also it doesn't say much for the psychologist he was seeing despite the fact that Andy has often said that he needs to stamp down on the shouting and swearing, so if he's really willing to do that then perhaps he should consult somebody different.

It seems that so  many players don'heir all at these master series tournaments. Fans pay good money to see their players play and want them to win not go out in the third round. Andy needs to try in all of his matches, yes some you're going to lose but you need to try. I DVRd the match so I did not see his bad behavior, but somebody better talk to him about it.

OMG!  Glad I didn't see that one. What on earth's up?  Got there early, usually does well, family round him, second home etc etc Think

I went to bed as Dimi won the second set I knew beyond any doubt that Andy would then lose the match. The only thing is the score was worse than I thought, I thought it would be 6-4!

Yeah, even Peter Fleming, Mac's partner in crime, last night said that Grigor could be world number one. At what? Choking?

I'm a massive Andy fan, but his attitude and behaviour last night were flat-out unprofessional. I hope there's nothing wrong in his personal life.

At times like this, I can see why the British public have never fully warmed to him.

Agreed - he behaved like a complete toddler out there with the weird manic grinning and ridiculous racket slamming and then audibly calling the umpire a f...........ing. C.... Hope Sophie never sees that tape of her daddy. Disappointed at the way he seemed to give up the match too. Having said that I still am huge fan  and hope he is ok.
