Andy has played the 24 year old Aussie and No. 14 seed twice before, Zhuhai in 2019 and the Laver Cup last year, with de Minaur winning on both occasions. Andy was a semi-finalist here in 2009, 2011 and 2016, losing to Nadal each time. In 2017 he exited in round 2 suffering a shock three set defeat at the hands of Albert Ramos-Vinolas despite leading 4-0 in the decider.
De Minaur has won 12 of his 18 matches this season, including winning his first ATP 500 title in Acapulco. However, he's on a two-match losing streak, having stumbled in the opening round at Indian Wells and Miami.
