finishes with an ace, Andy did not play bad, but his serve could have been better, he moved really well, but got out played today. so sad, would have enjoyed seeing Andy play all week. 7-6, 6-1
Well Gerasimov will play the winner of Sinner vs Bedene, which I'd expect Sinner to win, so let's see how Gerasimov does against him.

I still think Andy can make a comeback at a high level. When he gets beaten I remind myself of Djokovic and Nadal's horror seasons in the wilderness (2017 and 2015 respectively) and it gives me belief. You can do it Andy!

Not a shred of belief that he could win that match. Wondering why he would have accepted a wildcard.

A counter puncher like Andy always fights back.

First set was a very competitive affair with only one point deciding it in the TB. The second set the complete opposite, for whatever reason. Tbh, I never thought we would be seeing him the whole week with Sinner certainly awaiting him in R2.

Maybe, but they weren't trying to come back after three and a half years of playing very little tennis as well as having two hip surgeries. That said though, I would never count Andy out!

Because he wanted to get more matches under his belt. He's accepted a wildcard to Rotterdam next week, but as he's still shedding covid will have to return a negative test result first, although I think that applies to all the players.

I thought the same, but it's still disappointing that he couldn't beat Gerasimov, although I wasn't looking forward to seeing him losing to a 19 year old.

The thing is though that Andy does seem to think that he can do it, at the moment anyway.

He's done. No way back to the top level, and not really surprising - it's been nearly four years since he played at a high level, and that time out has taken a heavy toll.

Well he did win Antwerp back in October 2019 and played Cincinnati. the USO and RG last year, albeit with widely differing results, but I do think it's time he seriously considered retiring, perhaps at Wimbledon if he gets that far,

Well obviously Andy has more faith in himself then you do, you never know how a player you have never played will come out and play. Today his opponent was the better player, does not mean that Andy is finished!!

That first set was a good standard, a sharper Murray would have won that tie break and gone on to win the second set comfortably. Second set fall off was very worrying though, not sure if it was mental, physcial or both, but he can't afford to throw in sets like that.
Big decision whether he stays at ATP level, accepting wildcards, or steps back down to challenger tour.

If he kept losing like this then tournaments might stop offering him wild cards, in which case he'd have to qualify for them. I'm wondering though if he's still feeling the after effects of covid even if does claim to be physically fit,
Anyway I can't find any comments from Andy himself on the match, which is a bit unusual but I can understand why he might not have felt like speaking to the press immediately afterwards..

Completely agree. From what I can see has a wildcard for Rotterdam, but he could quite easily get a much harder draw.
Andrew Castle said on commentary that him and his team took a road trip from Biella. I make it a 12 hour car trip from Montpellier to Rotterdam!
