Murray to play RBA Abu Dhabi

Didn’t spot a limp myself.  Let’s just wait and see what happens eh?

Unlike some on MW who seem to jump to conclusions and have already written Andy off, I will wait and see.
Andy himself said that getting back to 100% wouldn't be a quick process, which isn't surprising after six months out plus given how bad things were for a while, so I'm not writing him off just yet either.

What I do find interesting is that Djokovic pulled out despite trumpeting a few days ago about how good he was feeling!

I'm glad you agree with me because I was beginning to wonder if maybe I should go to Specsavers!  His walking was perhaps a tad uneven but no worse than I've seen it in the past, and certainly compared with what we saw at Wimbledon and before the USO it's chalk and cheese.

Aileen, yes he’s looking much better.  Definitely didn’t want to chase the ball down but he’s obvously being understandably cautious.  I thought he served well once he got more comfortable and moved not too badly.  Hope you had a good christmas!  Have missed chatting to you.

As I said on the other thread I am sure he didn't want to push too hard at an exhibition match. He only stood in, as usual, to help the organisers just as he did at WTF when Federer pulled out.

Watched the match Andy does have a limp which I thought was quite noticeable.
However, i was pleased with his attitude and that was not one of a loser he knows within himself that he has a lot to do not with his strokes but with his movement. If that improves good, the problem is his movement if that does not improve then he may require surgery but that is for him to decide.
Either way in my eyes he is a great player and him and his family have done so much for tennis in this country. Which I do not think is appreciated.

It will be a long time before another one like him comes along maybe never.
his service to tennis in this country is not appreciated by the LTA and never will be.

I did have, thank you, and hope you had a good one too.  I've missed chatting with you as well.   I'm just sorry I missed the whole match because I didn't realise he was playing until it was too late, so had to be content with highlights.

It was certainly very convenient for the organisers that Andy was there.  I can understand too why he was cautious and not willing to push himself, so if nothing else it can be seen as a practice session.  I only got a sight of his team once but they didn't look unduly worried, which is good enough for me.

There seems to be divided opinions as to the limp, but you're right, Andy is no quitter, and he did warn us that getting back to full fitness would take a while, so just as it was after his back op, patience is going to be the key here.  Also we should remember how frustrating it must be for him not to be able to play at the level he knows he's capable of.

At least the BBC have managed to put a fairly positive slant on this match.

And according to Andy -

"When you haven't competed for a long time it takes time to get back up to that pace. I started to feel a bit better at the end,"

"I'll need to keep improving, for sure. It was good fun. I've missed it."

Either way he is still the best tennis player this country has produced without any help from the LTA.

I do so agree with what you say - surely all at MW agree too.

^ According to Andy's Facebook 10 hours ago he's leaving Abu Dhabi and is on his way to Brisbane!

Also according to the tournament website the only match to be played today (the 30th) is this -

Championship Match: Roberto Bautista Agut vs Kevin Anderson

RBA having been given a w/o to the final.

EDIT - Just to clarify matters, if you look at https://www.flashscores.co.uk/match/pWC7Btvn/#h2h;all you'll see that the Thiem/Murray match, scheduled for 1pm, has now been cancelled.
