AO R4 - Murray vs Isner

Quote

Andy will take this in straights. Isner is just the kind of freak opponent Murray loves, cos his freakishness gives Murray's tennis-computabrain an angle to exploit. He'll return well, hit with loads of slice that Dr Isner can't get down to, move him around and turn him like a spinning top. 7-6 6-4 6-1.

I concur Mr G....Murray in 3 cmon yeah

Haha, I still can't believe Monfils lost.

I haven't seen Isner play, but I am assuming he is a boring 1 dimensional serve and volleyer?

Think Karlovic, but with the ability to actually win tiebreaks. Isners ground strokes are better as well I suppose, given that Karlovic only has a slice on either wing.

Isner has an excellent serve. It's not in Karlovic's league, though. The rest of his game makes up for it, mind you.

Dont know, I think he has the potential to be a great player in the future, but Murray should be far too good for him right now. But as normally happens in the AO, he'll beat Murray and go far in the tournament.

This is going to be very, very tough indeed. Serra has hit 78 aces in 6 games so far this year. Murray is going to have to return like a god and not throw away sloppy service games.

50/50 on this one.

Yeah but what about Isner? Very Happy

Personally, the only player whose serve has frustrated Andy no end is Roger Federer, and I'm being serious. I realise Andy has the winning head to head with Federer, but there's matches where Federer's variation was just far too good.

Karlovic has the best serve on tour and I've seen Andy beat him 6-3 6-3 (something like that) in Cincinnati in 2008.

It's obvious that Isner has a better game off the ground than Karlovic, but he is still cumbersome from the back at the court and has poor groundstrokes compared to Murray. From what I've seen, he's a very astute volleyer and likes to come forward often.

This is the player who Andy loves to play, his serve will be neutralised once Andy learns to read it (that might take a set) Andy will keep the ball low with slice, and when you're 6 foot 8, that is an absolute nightmare. And when you consider the quality of Murray's groundstrokes and passing shots, I just don't see how Isner can devise a gameplan that can hurt Murray consistently.

Andy in 4 - it may take a set to read that mighty serve.

He's got some game off the ground, very tricky match, isners gameplan will be exactly the same as it was against monfils, however he'l quickly notice the step up in class when he plays murray, another level all together.

If we were told before the A.O. started that Andy would meet Isner in the 4th round,we would have been delighted........Sure,he can be dangerous but at this stage of his career,if he cant beat Isner with the amount of training he has done and all the experience he has gained over the years  WELL.........

Andy has the best return of serve on the tour so I dont think it will take as long as a set to work him out. Im saying Andy in 4 just because of Isners confidence levels. Hope im right! Any newson times?

Spot on robbie, this should be another decent win. I'll allow for 4 sets, like mollym, given that Isner is on a high, but anything more than that is unthinkable.

Saw a little bit of Rafa today - does he look vulnerable? Think

Not seen it mentioned on here, but just saw a good stat - Wednesday's win against Gicquel was Andy's first outdoor match (barring the Kooyong exho) since losing to Cilic in NYC! shocking

May explain the serve percentages which have improved as the week's gone on. Think

No, he was playing a damn good opponent in Kohlschreiber and looked good IMO.

Must admit I'm surprised that none of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, JMDP, Roddick, Davydenko are out of the tournament yet - only Soderling has fallen so far.
