Murray will play Alessio Di Mauro of Italy in round 2 of the US open. They have never played before.

Looks like this match will be played on Friday as Murray only has doubles on today (Thursday).

Di Mauro beat him quite badly    6-2   6-1   in Baretta in Italy (2005).....But then again, that was on a clay challenger and on Di Mauro's home turf...

but I think that Murray will win this one, he's a far better player now than he was over a year ago  clap

Murray to win    6-3   6-4   6-2      cmon yeah

I hope Andy loses in the doubles to be honest. I like Auckland and I want to see his ranking improve but he will just do himself more harm than good by playing in the doubles.

I think the doubles is competetive practice, i'm sure if it was detrimental to the singles, Brad would stop it. Stuff like that, now Andy has a coach (especially one of Brad's caliber) doesn't worry me at all.

Re Di Mauro, he's a clay courter, 10 yrs older than Andy: i predict Andy in SS. Not necessarily playing dazzling tennis, but good enough to go through and conserve the body as much as possible.

Andy will win this one, unless he gets injuried  Wink

^ agreed. May be another interesting performance from Andy where people will say he 'struggled through' but I think it'll be cause he'll do enough to win and no more. So when he wins he'll have achieved his goal!

i'd like to see him do it quick... in an hour an a half maybe... thats the best for him cause he can get extra rest if he wins doubles and singles quickly...

^ agree with you, David. Quick would be very good for conserving energy and yet getting some match practice in.
I don't think he'll underestimate Di Mauro though having been thrashed by him last year which will be good.

The BBC interview on the website had a very calm, controlled, focused-sounding Andy. Definitely BG's influence I think.
And a jolly good thing too!!

Agreed, good interview, and he's been working on his radio voice, which is definitely not flat any longer, so more  cmon yeah all round.

Yea quick would be nice - something like 6-3 6-2 6-3. Andy's moved on leaps and bounds since they last met but it would be nice to see a focused and prepared Murray. Never under-estimate a player. Saw a bit of that yesterday tbh. Neutral

Should be an easy win Smile

This guy doesn't have much of a serve, but I remember him being a decent returner of first serves. He's pretty consistant from the back so Andy is gunna have to be a bit more aggressive.

I think it's gunna be one of those matches with lots of deuce games, but one player (andy) just being a bit too good and making a tight match seem easy with a SS scoreline Very Happy

Ouch!

I think Andy will do this in straight sets and perform far more accomplished than yesterday.
