Murray vs Gimelstob ** [Official Topic] **

You guys expect too much. Murray is looking good to be a solid top 50 player if he works very very hard, Gilbert should be able to help there. If he does not sort his consistency out though he will probably end up on the challeneger tour.

Andy should have gone up just one place to 35.

Lisnten Guys Don't get this twisted, There is no curse,
Andy just played badly, In all truthfulness he should beat a player of Gimelstob's standard,
His first serve is clearly to eratic for a top 50 player, and it doesn't matter how good his return is, he's not going to win many matches against the elite player if he is not holding his own serve,  And we can't say that his serves been good this week, He had one good match against Kendrick and the other matches he was broken numerous time sby other players, On Grass which should mean he gets broken less!!!

Are you joking?? Murray is better.. he has played 3 games in 2 days.  Andy is better. Andy has beaten Roddick twice and Hewitt
True, plus Andy fell during the match which was playing on his mind throughout the contest with Gimelstob, Andy on a good day could thrash Gimelstob, it just wasn't to be today.

Totally agree with the serve point. But then most commentators seem to agree that with age and experience comes consistency, so in that area time is on andy's side: does anyone know what Federer was like serve-wise when he was 19?

Actually, having said that, this match serve was about equal, it was returns where Gimelstob had about 20% more...

Exactly and Nadal's serve wasn't that good either but his serve has improved alot over the years, like you said 'age and experience comes consistancy' so Razz

Although Kendrick took it to an extreme: he was still playing doubles today, so can't really be ill!.

That is fair enough, but no sportsman is stupid enough to play through an injury for such a long time: that could put the whole of the career at risk.

Look At Kendrick's ranking!!!! This May be his only chance to play an ATP tour event for the rest of this year, He needed to take this for the sake of his career

Not if its going to put him out for a couple of years, or even for good. Although being ill is a bit vague: there are some things (bad stomach, tiredness) through which one can play without too much consequence, but anything to do with bones and tendons, no, the long-term risk is too high.

Yeah I agree, he said he wanted to finish it like a man but if you are injured and you carry on then it could get worse and end up ruining the rest of your career and I don't think he wanted that to happen, he saw Andy was playing better than him and thought that the perfect excuse is to say I'm injured, utter bull s**t if you ask me.

IF it was a tendon thing he wouldn't be able to run, but it was obviously small enough for him to play, and the only thing we can say is that it was probably just Sour Grapes on Kendrick's part
