Rubbish. There is white on black racism or even black on white racism, sometimes within the same nationality.

Rubbish. There is white on black racism or even black on white racism, sometimes within the same nationality.
First of all, nobody is white or black. There is a spectrum of a skin pigmentation, and as I say, no pure races. I am not saying people should not use the terms white or black as short hand descriptions. Of course some are racist in discriminating against those whose pigmentation is darker or lighter, but even then that is rarely the whole picture. It is usually overlain with cultural assumptions or stereotypes about what people of a culture are supposed to be like. And this stereotyping etc. Can just as easily be done with religion or nation, for example, and with no less serious effect.
To take one of the more serious racism problems the UK used to have, anti irish racism. It was not based in skin colouration, but other cultural markers, accent....

There are some geneticists who believe that the Jews are a race. However. Hitler was usually referred to as being anti-Semitic. I think you will find the dictionary defines race as being different to nationality. The word is used loosely but that doesn't necessarily make it correct.
The Crown Prosecution Service says:
Racist or religious crime: This is an offence where the prosecutor has to prove a racial or religious element as part of the offence itself...
Racial group – this means any group of people who are defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin. This could include Gypsies and Travellers, refugees, or asylum seekers or others from less visible minorities. There has been a legal ruling that Jews and Sikhs are included in the definition of racial group.

Anyway benniebone should have said UK to avoid all this.

@ Elena. I wasn't actually thinking of prosecution. I said nationality is different to race. If asked my nationality I say Scottish. Don't think I have been asked my race but would probably say white or human.

Quite interesting musings but agree should not have been on this thread. The musings are meant to be about Andy.

Not to worry, Milly. No matter how specific the thread name it is still easy to wander. We all knew it was meant to be about Andy's year. My proper musings are - an up and down year for our lovely boy but still there with him.

Well, after the USO defeat some thoughts....
Despite all the gloom there has been, it is notable that in effect Andy is still top 4, in terms of his recent slam performances.
For example, over the last three slams he has done better than raonic, wawrinka, dimitrov. It has been much less spectacular than the other top three but still better than guys who are still getting hyped whilst andy gets stick

Exactly. His drop is actually due mainly to his fantastic two-thirds of last year which gave him so many points to defend. That is why the points system does not tell the real story. As was said before he is only one of two male players to reach the QTRs of all the GS this year. The other one being Nole.

Andy has reached quarter finals and semis of all 4 slams less than a year after back surgery! That in itself speaks volumes.
I for one am extremely proud of him and proud to call myself a fan.
What a guy.

I seem to be in trouble cos I said that Andy's achievements would always be remembered in
England and elsewhere being only a footnote in History The reason for this was that he won Wimbledon which happens to be in England
It has nothing to do with racism Golly people are so sensitive nowadays

Does that mean that IF Nishi wins the US Open it will only be remembered in US and be a footnote in history elsewhere. What about in Japan?

I have just watched the first 2 sets of last nights match. I know Andy lost but it was a brave loss I thought he played very well and Djokovic did not have an easy match. Well done Andy even if you did loose I for one am very proud of you and Djokovic had to fight very hard for the win.

It was a brave loss lb and also one that must give us hope for next year when, all being well, he will finally be back to full fighting form - with a forehand to die for and a new-found love of the net. It would be great if he could finish the year on a high with some good results on the Asian swing and dare I say it, inclusion in the WTF where he belongs and then win it finally or at very least get to the finals.

You are right Angie I cannot understand some people on MW are never happy, I feel like saying here's a raquet go and see if you can do any better.
What a load of moaners, people forget that Andy had surgery and he knows himself that he is not playing to his full capacity. He has done well considering what he has gone through. I won't say further because I just get angry and those people are not worth it.
