MWTC Day 2: Andy Murray vs Rafael Nadal

Quote

How sweet was that?

Imagine if he could get that 1st serve grooving?

Nadal in 2. Since he's playing the 'I'm not the favourite card' he'll win.

Don't care, it's an exho.

Right. Hope you're not a betting man.

This may only be an exhibition event, but it can tell a lot about what form a player is in, and Andy is in top form.

That's a question I have often asked db.  It's ridiculous and not fair on either the baby or the players.  Can't tournament organisers lay on a crèche, if mothers must take their kids along?

Good idea Aileen...also the mothers/guardians cant possibly enjoy or watch the match properly either??

Personally i would  just lock them in a cupboard  till match is over

Joking....

Thoroughly enjoyed Andy's matches the last two days. Great start to the new year. Been watching with my Mum - first thing she said when Andy was warming up yesterday was that he looks 'well'.

First serve may still be unreliable but on the whole there's a noticeable increase in length on the second serve.

Overall I'm liking what I'm seeing - aggression, power, variety, flair (including yesterday's left-handed forehand winner down the line!), moving well, looking well.

More sweet because I was wrong. It did not go to three & they did use towels quite a bit. Nadal did play a lot slower than Andy as he used the towel a lot more. Rafa is a magnificent player but I get so fed up with his little ploys to win i feel he has been suitably beaten but a class player not letting it get to him. Particularly pleased as Andy did him the good service to help him practice earlier in the week!

I liked the game plan - use the Ferrer approach to pepper the Rafa backhand. The only difference was that when Nadal looped one to Andy's backhand he could play that brilliant flat drive cross court (rather like a table tennis shot to me). I know it was only a pre-season exhibition and probably not count in their H2H. I hope that with Amelie he has as good a game plan for either Novak or Stan. Perhaps he will have the first serve up and running for the final.

Truly amazing. Especially I liked his BH, which he hit so cleanly and with so much confidence. A shot I really missed last year. And today he did not give his advantage right back but showed great fighting spirit facing all the many BP.

Pig roasted.  yay
Not exactly.  The score-line doesn't really reflect the match.  Andy could have done without having to save all these BPs, and Nadal gave it his all in the circumstances, but Andy was just too good.

I'm truly amazed though at how much Andy has improved in such a short space of time.  Right back at the top of his game, and playing aggressively as well.  Miami and Amelie obviously did him a power of good.  Now if he could just get his serve sorted out ...!

If he plays like this tomorrow then, be it Stan or Djoko, he could give them problems, although an improved serve would be helpful.

Since when did Nigel Sears, and I assume it's him, start commentating for Eurosport?  Seems a bit strange to be commentating on a match his future son-in-law is playing in!

I've only ever heard him on bt before where I've always thought he was very good, excellent analysis and calm demeanour. Plus very knowledgeable about players due to his many coaching roles. But still finding it too weird to have him commenting on Andy.

Thoroughly enjoyed that match, Andy seems so free and relaxed on court. Much bigger hitting and aggression than I remember all last year. So positive and some awesome shots. Loving 2015 version of tennis so far-this Under Armour gear must work really well!

Hello Everyone. After being a 'guest' for months and months I have finally decided to enrol in the Forum. After today's performance it is hard not to add my great pleasure at a fantastic result!! Let's hope it is a sign of things to come!!

I would also like to add my thanks to the people who keep the Forum going and also to those who 'commentate' on the games which I for one am unable to watch!! You are all very much appreciated by myself.

Here's to a great year of tennis...... and a great year for Andy!
