Newport QF: Andy Murray vs Alexander Bublik

Quote

Andy reached the quarter finals by defeating Max Purcell 4/6, 6/2, 6/1.  He struggled a little throughout Set 1 but made a splendid recovery to win the set.  He went on to win the match in his usual determined manner.  We all remember that Andy beat Bublik in Stuttgart.
Alexander Bublik (also known as Sascha) has a world ranking of 42, he's seeded 2 at this tournament, and Andy is very familiar with his game.  Bublik was born in Russia and now plays for Kazakhstan.  He's 25 years old and lives in Monte Carlo. He's the number 1 player for Kazakhstan in singles, and is a competent doubles player too. He  made his Olympic debut at the Summer Olympics in 2020 (played in 2021)  where he played Daniil Medvedev in R1 and lost in straight sets.
At 6'5" he has a powerful serve and an unpredictable game style with the occasional use of an underarm serve and says he hates playing tennis! His style has been compared with Nick Kyrgios for playing in an unorthodox manner.
The match is estimated to start at 5.30pm BST today.
Weather:  Sunny intervals 22/23C.

I expect this to be a struggle but for Andy to win.

I found it on my normal sports freestream for when matches are not covered anywhere else to be live at 17:30:

I do hope Andy is feeling fit enough to play today! If he's still experiencing any pain at all, he really should withdraw!
No point in making it worse!

Thanks for opening the thread moonglow.

I don't know what to think really.  If Andy is fit and focussed and his serve is working well then he should do it, possibly in three, but Bublik is such an unpredictable player that anything is possible.

I also hope for Andy's sake that the line judges today have better eyesight than the ones on Wednesday had!

^ I'm sure he'd have pulled out by now if he wasn't going to play.
