I think because his dog died it may have affected his performances
Quite possibly because you don't have a much loved pet for 14 years and get over their loss in a week.

When the naysayers jump in to make remarks it’s only when Andy isn’t winning. We never see them when Andy wins. If these people were professional tennis players who had won more than three grand slams, won more than two gold medals in the Olympics as well as a silver, if these players had played on the Davis team for the Brit’s the year they won , then you might be able to come in and give your advice to Andy. But you haven’t!! Your claim to fame is being naysayer, you are not even a fairweather fan because you are not a real fan. So if you can’t say anything good best you keep your opinions to yourself!!!

I watched most of the match and was quite satisfied with Andy's performance, save for him not being able to win. Bublik is a difficult opponent always. Andy's skills and movement were good. That part of his play has improved a lot these last few months. As a result he is a top fifty player and it shows. We must not be so critical that he is no longer a top ten player. He is older, returning from serious injuries, so we have to consider what we expect. I think we need measure his performances more objectively and perhap just enjoy the matches that he plays. It will be a sad day when that is lost even if inevitable.

I agree with that MA but unfortunately I think it might be beyond some of his so-called fans on here to do that so intent are they in offering criticism at the slightest opportunity!

A counter puncher like Andy always fights back.

A tournament that has been won four times by Isner, other champions being Karlovic, Anderson etc. is based on servebotting. imho. Therefore I did not really expect Andy to come through against Bublik, who must have hit 22 aces in the previous round if I remember the comm‘s words correctly. But as I have not seen today‘s match, I cannot judge if Andy had a chance.

So Andy will have to figure out how to beat these big guys who are servebots.
Figure out? He used to be able to dismantle "servebots" with no problem. The sad fact is that Murray is not the player he was before his injury, and never will be.

He hasn't been at his best all week so a quarter final is a good result. Not sure why but he's serving much worse than he did earlier in the grass court season, maybe hangover from the abdominal stuff. Can't always be at your best though. Bublik played well today I thought. Top 50 before the US hard court swing. Not bad.

^ I think that you may be right about his service being troubled by the previous abdominal injury. I still have difficulties with bruised ribs making intense sport near impossible some four months after the argument that caused the injury.
I just think he is good to watch mainly because of the skills he has. I shall be watching his games in the American hard court events.

He'll still be thinking about the dog, but I don't think losing the match would have been because of that.

I agree with this comment on the ATP website -
"It was not that Murray was wiped off the court. He saved just one of the four break points he faced, and was only able to convert one of the two he earned. That made all the difference."
I also understand that Andy's next tournament will be in Washington.

I really didn't think it was a good idea anyway to play Atlanta as well as Washington before the two Masters!

It's a very good idea, actually. It's not like he will be playing to the end of every tournament. Taking weeks off after going out in round 2 is a big part of why his ranking never got moving until quite recently. He should play every week that he can.

It's entirely his decision which tournaments to play.
