Newport QF: Andy Murray vs Alexander Bublik

Quote

It's a very good idea, actually. It's not like he will be playing to the end of every tournament. Taking weeks off after going out in round 2 is a big part of why his ranking never got moving until quite recently. He should play every week that he can.
Andy's having a training block with Lendl in Florida for much of the next two weeks, so not exactly taking time off!

With Isner now out in the SF to the No. 4 seed Maxime Cressy I can see Bublik, who saw off Jason Kubler comfortably in his SF match, winning this tournament unless either he or his big serve suddenly implode - the rather sad thing being that Andy would have had a very good chance of doing the same.

Yes he definitely knows what’s best for him and his body!!

Yes!

As far as I know he used to read MW but I don't think he reads it these days.  It's better that he doesn't read it now, because he would get very tired of all the stupid advice offered to him by people who have never played tennis in all their lives and if they could actually be on a court with Andy, they wouldn't be able to return one ball to him, they probably wouldn't even see it coming.

I'd be surprised if Alexander Bublik didn't win the tournament. It has happened before that Andy lost to the eventual winner,

Now it seems that Andy is intending to play in Atlanta after all!

Bublik did not win the final after all, losing 6-2, 3-6, 6-7(3-7) to America's Maxime Cressy who won his first ATP Tour title.  Cressy did well though to keep his focus and his nerve after falling and hurting his knee when he was leading 6-5 in the third.  Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

So I was right about him needing to play more, then.

Apparently not. No Atlanta after all.
